Would Create national Park At Vincennes - WASHINGTON UPI — Sen. •Vance Hartke, D-Ind., has asked a Senate Interior subcom"'mittee to approve legislation •which would create a national park of the George Rogers Clark Memorial at Vincennes,
Indiana.
Hie House Monday passed a similar bill sponsored by Rep. Winfield K. Denton, D-Ind. The National Park Service estimates it would cost about 1300,000 to repair and enlarge “the 17-acre state-owned memorial. Operating costs are expected to amount to $41,500 in the first year of federal responsibility, and to increase to around $50,000 by the fifth year. The federal government contributed more than $1.5 million to the domed, doric-columned memorial in 1928, but with the requirement that the State of Indiana should forever assume the maintenance costs. It was this proviso which prompted the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt to veto a 1939 bill to include the memorial in the na-
tional park system.
Denton spearheaded the cam-
paign for another try.
* His bill, expanded at the suggestion of the Interior Department, would authorize the secretary of interior to accept the Clark Memorial as a gift from the state and to enter cooperative agreements to maintain three other buildings of historic
interest in the park.
These include a two-room
Deadlock Broken \U.S. Heading For N*"
By MATO Allies BRUSSELS UPI — France and the other NATO countries broke their deadlock Wednesday on the way in which they will discuss the future military task of French forces in Germany after July 1. Their foreign ministers agreed this can be handled by the NATO permanent council in Paris. Agreement came after Secretary of State Dean Rusk persuaded them to make one last try. The crucial issue had been the status of these forces in an emergency and how they would cooperate with NATO forces in time of war. The French objected to any mention of an emergency because they felt this tied them down to a form of “concealed integration” with NATO forces. It finally was agreed that the NATO council could discuss as one of the most important problems “the tasks and missions of French forces in Germany, including their cooperation with the forces and commanders of NATO.” Any mention of an “emergency” was omitted. But the other 14 foreign ministers told French Foreign Minister Maurice Couve de Murville they were making a “mental reservation” to this effect and he accepted it. The agreement was hammered out at a series of behindscenes caucuses and meetings

Police Disperse Student Mob GARBONDALE, ILL. UPI— State police Wednesday dispersed a surly group of 300 Qetrthem Illinois University qtQdents who had threatened to storm the Carbondale police statics after a night of free-for-all demonstrations. Hie state troopers formed a fine and walked quietly into the students, who had stood massed In front of the police station for about three hours. The students offered no resistance, and departed peaceably. The show of force brought to an end a confrontation between students and police which began when authorities turned back what apparently was to be a panty raid on a girl's dormitory. The students — numbering 1,500 at times—re-grouped off campus, and at one point police fired tear gas into the crowd to disperse them. Fifteen students were jailed, three on state charges of inciting a riot and were released on bond. After authorities used the tear gas, the students smashed at least one store window, pulled down street signs and set trash cans afire in downtown Carbondale.

400 Pies For Daughter's Party CHICAGO UPI — After the dancing, the cokes, the hot dogs and all that jazz are over, Patty Lamb’s graduation party was to get down to business tonight—
the 400 pies.
Patty, 13, is graduating from grammar school. Her parents thought something a little different should be whipped up for her and about 60 classmates. So they made 400 pies in an effort to throw something a little different. The kids have been told that the pies are for throwing, not eating. Patty’s father, Jerry, said the pies are made out of cornstarch and “set up beautifully” on five-inch paper plates. “We didn’t want anyone to get hurt.” “They’re gorgeous,” he said. “It’ll be the biggest mess ever to hit Crystal Lake.” “It’s getting to be quite a production,” he said. “I’m going broke. I’m going to have to invite all the neighbors to watch. “I’ve checked with my insursurance and I guess I’m clear on that,” Lamb said. “After it’s over. I’ll hose the kids down, send them home, go into the house, mix a drink and wait for from Irate parents.’*

Reformists appeared sure of 22 of the 27 seats in the new Senate and 48 of the 74 seats in the new Chamber of Deputies. The other seats in both Houses went to ousted ex-President Joan Bosch’s PRD party. None of the nation’s other seven parties won any congressional seats.
Fiasco: Kosygin MOSCOW UPI—Soviet Premier Alexei Kosygin said Wednesday the United States is heading toward an “inevitable fiasco” in Viet Nam. Kosygin said that despite massive arms outlays, “The United States is more and more mixed up in Viet Nam, is suffering both political and moral damage and ... is no closer to its objectives.” “Some advisers let down the U.S. ruling circles,” the Premier told a Bolshoi theater audience in a speech connected with next Sunday’s parliamentary elections here. “They made plans where and how to start the war, but recommended nothing about getting out of it.” Kosygin claimed the Viet Cong now controls four-fifths of all South Vietnamese territory and 10 million of the country’s 14 million population.

minor earthquakes.
Avoids Collision
WASHINGTON UPI — A chartered plane carying members of the White House press corps back from Texas had to swerve suddenly over Andrews Air Force Base, Md., Tuesday to avoid a Marine jet trainer coming in for a landing. The pilot of the American Airlines Boeing 707 jetliner, Capt. J. E. Bachner of Fort Worth, Tex., said later there was no danger to the press plane. He told the plane’s 61 passengers he had to swerve because the trainer was coming in on the same approach pattern.

ing my house.”
Friends warned Vanheeghe he was asking for trouble but he ignored them and hired Jean
Vanclemptutte, 44.
Today police were holding Vanclemptutte on charges of stabbing Vanheeghe to death after discovering his employer was in excellent health and likely to live for years.
