Coatesville will have two baseball clubs this summer — a Little League outfit and a Pee Wee team, but no Babe Ruth. The reason for no Babe Ruth is that there are not enough boys of proper age. Don King, Rony Walters, Glenn Curtis and others will help the lads who participate and Chizzletown fans will watch the boys play and cheer them whether they win or lose. The Elston Herrin family was made happy Friday morning when at 6:30 son Carroll arrived home from his army camp at Glasgow, Montana. This is a vest pocket essay on honesty. Have you ever picked up a package that did not belong to you and while the package had the owner’s name and the store name in it you still decided to keep it for something said, “No one will ever know.” Your conscience will know and will condemn you when you look at the thing you took and it will condemn you more when you wear it. There will be no joy to you when friends tell you that it is pretty and you will know why their compliment is dead. Memorial Day parade from the Civic Building to the Cemetery south of town was led by the Cascade Junior High Band. The afternoon program started at 2:00 with the band playing patriotic airs while the crowd gathered. The invocation was given by Reverend Thomas Jeffries after which Mr. John Gambold introduced the speaker, Reverend Clyde Lininger. After the address in which the speaker spoke of the American Heritage and what we owe to those who made our land the good land that it is there was a flag raising by the Boy Scouts and three volleys from the firing squad. Taps were sounded and Reverend John Deal gave the benediction.
There were more than 500 men, women and children, the greatest number yet seen at a Coatesville Memorial Service.
