blamed the United States for the government attack on Da Nang, saying It ranked with the atom-bombing of Hiroshima and the landing of troops in Santo Domingo as the three U.S. “disgraces of the 20th Century.” Militant Buddhist leader Thich Tri Quang declared that there will be bloodshed as long as Premier Nguyen Cao Ky’s military government remains in power.
121 Feared Dead la Ship Tragedy MANILA UPI — The owners of the ill-fated inter-island ship Pioneer Cebu said today they had accounted for 121 of the 242 persons who were aboard the ship when it sank in a typhoon Monday. Five were known dead and 116 persons were missing. A spokesman for the Filipinas Pioneer Lines said there were 188 passengers and 54 crewmen aboard the ship, 20 fewer than originally reported when the ship left Manila Sunday night for Cebu. South Viet Tribesmen Have Clever Mousetrap
SAIGON UPI—The Montagnards may have built the better mousetrap. They use tiny bows and arrows. U.S. Army troops in the jungle hill country of eastern South Viet Nam, the home of the sometimes primitive Montagnard tribesmen, have come down out of the mountains with reports of odd little hollowed out logs. After carving out the log’s middle, the Montagnard puts two miniature bows at one end, fastening them to the log. Next he puts a tiny arrow on each. A morsel of food is set on a crude spring or tied to it. A string or bamboo sliver runs back to the bows, keeping them taut. The Montagnard sets the trap. When a rat nudges the food, the spring unleashes the carefully set bows. One arrow is aimed for the spot where the rat’s head should be. The other goes for the neck and chest The soldiers claim it works. They also report two other Montagnards mountain mousetraps. One simply crushes the rat. The other is designed for those who wish to eat the rat The first is a cage affair. It has no roof except for a huge rock held up by a tender twig. The rat nudges the twig in order to slip inside and get at the bait The rock comes tumbling down and the rat is squashed. But some Montagnards are said to eat rats. They, the reports hold, are responsible for a trap similar to the ones used by American farm boys to catch rabbits.
A small hole is dug. Food is dropped as bait into the hole. A twig holds up a rock or piece of wood. When the rat nudges the twig the lid flops down, knocks the beasties into the hole and keeps him there, alive and fresh.

Still Hopeful Son Is Alivo SURFSIDE, Fla. UPI — The parents of Danny Goldman, although saying they felt their kidnaped son was still alive, have offered a “minor reward” for information on where to “reclaim his body” in the event he has been killed. Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Goldman talked informally to newsmen in their home for the first time since March 28, when a masked gunman entered the wealthy contractor’s home and fled with their 18-year-old son. They said their belief that the boy was still alive was based on their impression of the stocky kidnaper, and on their conviction that he may be in hiding with the boy because of extensive press coverage that has made him fearful to make contact. They said a 825,000 reward for his “safe return” was still standing.

tributor was beaten and shot at by Negro youths. Young Negroes in automobiles hurled bricks at store fronts and, in one such incident, a shop owner fired several shots at one of the vehicles, police said. A mobile unit operated by television station KNXT, a CBS affiliate, was hit by one bullet and its windows were smashed. At the height of the disorder, Los Angeles police donned “black beret” headgear — black cloth netting over their white helmets — to make themselves less conspicuous targets for snipers.

Tanks Used By Loyal Vietnamese DA NANG UPI—Government tanks went into action for the first time today against rebel South Vietnamese troops entrenched around the Tien Hoa pagoda in the fiercest fighting of the six-day battle for Da Nang. Rebel sources said 10 persons had been killed and 170 wounded in the fighting which raged for hours in the center of the city. There was no report of government casualties. Buddhists who have declared virtual war on the government demanded that U.S. Marines help the rebels, threatening that they would destroy the big American airbase here if they refused to do so. Arrests Reveal Stolen Car Ring INDIANAPOLIS UPI—Four Indianapolis men were held on 810,000 bonds this morning and police said more arrests would be forthcoming in what was described as a 8500,000 stolen car ring. Marion County sheriff’s deputies said late Thursday as many as 12 persons may be involved in the ring, which they said dismantled the stolen cars and then sold the parts on order. Authorities identified the four men arrested Thursday as Charles Allison, 26; Jerry Claus, 22, his brother, Farrell, 20, and Richard Kennedy, all of Indianapolis. They said Allison also had been charged with entering to commit a felony. Allison was arrested while attempting to change the ignition in a car during the w'eekend, authorities said. He pleaded guilty to the charge in a magistrate’s court Thursday, but sentencing was delayed. Sheriff deputies said it was believed the ring had operated in the Indianapolis area for as long as four years and that as many as 300 cars were involved. They said one of the men arrested told them the cars were dumped after they were stripped of all usable parts.

4-H sheep members will be interested to know that Harley Sutherlin will shear their market or fat lambs June 11, at the Fairgrounds. Any breeding ewes that need to be blocked, can be brought in also. This will start at 8 o’clock at the Fairgrounds. • • * Market barrows and fat lambs for the 4-H members should be in the member’s possession by June 1. The records for these animals should be started at least by this time. Record keeping for 4-H members is an important part of the 4-H work. • • • I have noticed that several of the evergreen shrubs are browning on the tips of the branches. This is caused by drying out of the branches by the long sloping sunlight during March and early April. My information says that this usually occurs on the southwest side of the house. Well, it seems that my shrubs are showing some of the drying out and they are on the northwest side of the house To correct this injury cut out the brown tips, apply good fertilizer and water if necessary. If you want more information about this, we have a reference that can be picked up at the County Extension Office. This reference is Mimeo BP 2-10 Winter Injury and Drouth to Ornamental Evergreens. • * * Pine Needle Cast is another problem that is bothering Scotch, Red, and White Pine.
Some of the needles are dying which start with small black spots on the needles. The affected needles soon turn red or brown and fall from the tree. This is a fungus disease and infections occur following rains in early May. This loss can bs reduced by applying bordeaux or phenyl mercury fungicides. The reference on this is Mimeo BP 2-13 Evergreen Diseases.

above.
* * * Some time in the near future you may be trimming your hedges. If you do, prune them so that the bottom is wider than the top. This is so that the sun rays will hit the lower branches and thus encourage leaves at the ground level. * • * Tips of chrysanthemum shoots can be removed to encourage more branching and a more compact plant. • * * If the weather gets so that you can get in the fields to plant com, I would suggest that you try some form of minimum tillage to speed up your operation. Many of the fields are haired over with young grass and this could cause a problem. This can be remedied somewhat by the use of pre-emerged herbicides. Solid application of the herbicides would be the best if you can get the spray. Be thinking about next year’s plans to Improve and speed up com planting.
