Teen League to Hold Auction The Cloverdale Junior Teen League (Babe Ruth) will hold its Annual Slave Dinner and Auction on May 7th at the American Legion Home. Saturday evening at 7:30 p. m. approximately 50 boys will go “on the block.” Wayne Branneman, auctioneer, will sell them to the highest bidder. Anyone who needs help for any work such as painting, yardwork, cleaning, window washing, housework, farm work (not involving operation of machinery) may purchase a “Slave for a Day.” The buyer will designate time and place for work detail. Parents will transport your slave to and from work. These boys range in age from 13-18 and are able, willing workers. They are very interested in this summer’s baseball program and give their time and energy to help finance it. All proceeds from this event go toward purchase of equipment, uniforms, and insurance for the Junior Teen Baseball League. A tasty ham dinner will be served from 5:30-7:30. Tickets for dinner may be bought from any of the boys or at the do-r. You do not have to come for dinner in order to buy a “slave”. However we do urge you to attend both events. Here is your opportunity to have a “fun” evening and also help many teen age boys have a “fun” summer.

CHICAGO UPI — Johnny Kerr, a former star center at the University of Illinois, Tuesday was named head coach of the new Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association. A1 Bianchi was named his assistant. Both men were among the 18 players drafted by the Bulls from the nine other NBA teams last weekend to prepare to play in the league next fall. Bulls President Dick Klein said it would be the job of Kerr to “get the team ready to play 81 games” and for Bianchi to teach the players “the fine points of individual play.” Kerr, a Chicagoan, became one of the Big Ten’s all-time centers while playing for Illinois. Kerr, who has been playing for the Baltimore Bullets, and Bianchi, from the Philadelphia 76’ers, were among the castoffs that Klein picked up from other NBA teams as a “reward” for getting into the league.
