Obituaries
Hubert Smaltz Rites Tuesday Hubert J. Smaltz, assistant director of DePauw University’s computing colter, (tied Sunday morning at Robert Long Hospital in Indianapolis, where he had been a heart patient His immediate survivors include his wife, Mrs. P e s f y Dean Smaltz; four daughters. Sue Ellen, Carol Dean, Judith Anne and Janet Mae and a son, David Allan, all at home. Also surviving are one sister, Janet Smaltz, Bismarck, N. D.; two aunts, Beatrice and Edith Matthews, Morrison, 111.; an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Jay J. Smaltz, Fulton, IH., and other relatives. Mr. Smaltz joined the DePauw accounting office staff in 1961, becoming supervisor of statistical service in 1955. He assumed his present duties in 1963. After his graduation from the University of Illinois In 1937, Smalts spent four years with the Ludowici Celadon Co., in New Lexington, O., as a laboratory assistant. He became a field executive for the Boy Scouts of America in 1941, serving the next nine years in posts at Terre Haute, Richmond, Chicago and Alton, Illinois. He was associated with the Greencastle Savings and Loan Association during 1950-61. Continuing his interest bn scouting, Smaltz served Greeneastle and Putnam County as scoutmaster, eonandsslonsr and as a member of the executive board ef the Wabash VaHey Council of Boy Scouts. He was a member ef Gobin Methodist Church and served the Putnam County Society for Crippled Children as a member ef Ms board of directors. Services wtl be held Tuesday st S p. m. at Gobin Memeiral Methodist Church. FViends may call at the Hop-kfene-Walton Funeral Home after 7 this evening. In lieu of flowers an educational fund for the Smaltz cMUken has been established at DePauw. Reachdale Rites For Mrs. Scott Mrs. Golden L. Scott, 56-year-old resident of Roachdale, died at 10 p.m. Saturday in Robert Long Hospital at Indianapolis. She was born July 11, 1909 near Browns Valley, a daughter of William R. and Clementine Barnes Whitaker. She married Cecil Scott at Greencastle on July 5, 1947. Mrs. Scott was a member of the Church of Christ at Cloverdale and the Order of the Eastern Star at Roachdale. She had been employed at the Roachdale School for the past four years. Surviving are her husand; a daughter, Mrs. Patsy Allen of Roachdale; three grandchildren; two brothers, James Howard Whitaker who is in Viet Nam and Roscoe Whitaker of Roachdale; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Gibson of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Olive Scott of Roachdale, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral rites will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Perkins Funeral Home. Burial will be in Roachdale Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. Mildred Girtoa Rites Pending Mrs. Mildred Grace Girton, 69, passed away Sunday afternoon. She was the mother of Jerry Girton, Greencastle; Mrs. Barbara Lore, Long Island, N.Y., and Bruce Bowersock, West Palm Beach, Fla. Close friends and relatives may call at the Whitaker Funeral Home this evening. Services are still pending and will be announced tomorrow. Ex-Bainbridge Resident Dies Alma Leyenberger died in Cleveland, Ohio, Saturday morning. She was the daughter of George and Matilda. Anderson
Pickle and lived in the Bainbridge community until 1945 when she moved to Cleveland to live with her daughter. She was a member of the Bainbiidge Methodist Church and was very active in church affairs. Survivors arc ons daughter, Mrs. Guy Boswell, Cleveland, and two nieces, Denise Steward, Bainbridge, and Lucille Sands, Carmel. Funeral services will be held at the Hopkins-Walton Funeral Home in Bainbridge at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Leland Wade officiating. Burial will be in the Bainbridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hopkins-Walton Funeral Home. Cleverdale Rites For Mrs. Pise Mrs. Better Piso, 69, Greencastle, died Saturday morning at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was bom, May 16, 1896, the daughter of Ah*, and Mrs. Cal Weavel. She was married to Walter OrreM, who preceded her in death in 1936, and was later married to A! Piso, who preceded her in death in 1949. Survivors are: four daughters, Dorothy Sutherlin, Christina Martin and Helen McCammack, all of Indianapolis and Doris Demsey, Chicago; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p. m. at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Ooverdale. Rev. John : Berry will officiate, with burial in dovsrdals Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home in Ooverdale. Grover Hurt, 80, Dies In Brnzil Grover (Stubby) Hurt, 80, Ooverdale, died at 7 o’clock Monday morning at the Clay County Hospital in Brazil. Mr. Hrust was born December 31, 1895 In Morgan County, the son of William and Willard Moser Hurt. He operated a pool room in Ooverdale for several years. Survivors are his wife, Ethel Wilhite Hurst; three daughters, Nellie Williams, Clovtrdale, Blanche Lambert, Mooresville and Helen Morgan, Indianapolis; four sons, Harvey Hurt, Ooverdale, Freddie, Plainfield, Oyde, Putnamvillt and Clarence, Cottonwood, Ariz.; three brothers, Tom Hurt, Elvin Hurt, Hall, and Edgar of Kansas; twenty-seven, grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchil-
dren.
Funeral services will be announced later by the Whitaker Funeral Home in Ooverdale. Miss Mury Ader Died Snturdny Miss Mary Ader, 77, Coatesville, Route 2, died Saturday at the home of her sister, Mrs. Vivian Sutherlin. Miss Ader was born at Groveland April 5, 1889, the daughter of Solom and Eppie Phelp Ader. She graduated from Clayton High School and Old Central Normal College at Danville and taught school for over 30 years in Putnam and Newton counties. She was a member of the ' Groveland Presbyterian Church and the Groveland Community
Club.
Besides Mrs. Sutherlin, she is survived by another sister, Miss Ethel Ader. She was a sister-in-law of Rollie McVay of Mont-
pelier.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Groveland Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Robert Alexander will officiate. Burial Mill be in the Bainbridge cemetery. Friends may call at the Weaver Funeral Home in Coatesville.
J. H. Vaughan Dies Jewell H. Vaughan died this morning at the Greenview Manor Nursing Home in Indianapolis. Mr. Vaughan had been a patient at the nursing home for quite some time. He had spent most of his life in Cloverdale. Funeral arrangements are being made by Whitaker Funeral Home in Cloverdale.

Mr. and Mrs. Fremont Power of Indianapolis, who have been vacationing in Florida for the past three weeks visited her mother, Mrs. Minta Snider on Sunday. The Young Mothers Study Club will meet at the home of Doretta Poynter on Anderson Street at 8:00 p. m. Wednesday, May 4. The guest speaker will be Mrs. Snavely. Roll call will be a helpful hint. John B. Gross, Jr., 20, Rochester, Minn., was arrested by City Officer John Stevens at 2:45 Sunday morning on East Washington Street. Gross was Charged with having no registration for the vehicle he was
driving.

City firemen were called to Wayne Hopkins residence, 616 Ridge, at 8:50 Saturday night. They reported that the furnace exploded but there was no fire and no one was hurt. Damage was confined to the furnace. Funeral services for Raymond English will be held Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at the DePauw Mortuary in Terre Haute. Mr. English was the brother of Mrs. Opal Klebusch of this city and Virgil English of Bainbridge. Greencastle Eastern Star Chapter 255 will meet Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. The new District Deputy, Mrs. Vivian Pickett, plans to be present. The Associate Matron, Mrs. Leona Tuttle, will report on Grand Chapter. All members of the order are most welcome to attend the meeting.

Mrs. Phillips Attends National Convention Mirs. Clifton Phillips left Sunday night by plane for Denver, Colorado to attend the National Convention of The League of Women Voters. Mrs. Phillips is the local president and will serve as official delegate for the Greencastle League. Although primarily a working meeting at which the expected 1,200 voting delegates will select the national issues on which they wish to concentrate for the next two years, May 2 thru 6, will nqt be devoted entirely to working out a program. The agenda includes addresses by Robert C. Weaver, William J. D. Boyd, Henry S. Reuss, C. Montgomery Johnson, and Jim Fain. Election of officers and directors will be held May 5. Funeral Tuesday For R. F. Duffer Robert Ezra Duffer, 72, father of Mrs. Brenda Haas of Cloverdale, died at 11:38 p.m. Saturday at the Clark County Hospital in Jeffersonville. Survivors besides Mrs. Haas, are the widow, Mrs. Victoria (Geary) Duffer; one son, Billy Shephard of Jeffersonville, and three other daughters, Mrs. Eunice Stansberry, Riverside, Calif., Mrs. Wanda Schadt, Louisville, Ky., and Mrs. Rita Starr of Germany; also surviving are two sisters, two brothers, eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
