Los Angeles shocked the sev-en-time champion Celtics, 123115, Tuesday night to force the deadlocked playoff Into a seventh and final game. The Lakers went the first playoff game in Boston, but then dropped three in a row before surging back to knot the series at 3-3 and temporarily postpone the retirement plans of Celtic Coach Red Auerbach. A blend of veteran skill and rookie brashness has sparked the Laker comeback. It was most evident Tuesday night as the smallest Lakers, 6-foot rookie Gail Goodrich, teamed with veterans Jerry West and Elgin Baylor to turn back Boston before 15,069 Sports Arena spectators. Goodrich played back to the level of his heroic performance in the opening Los Angeles win and scored 28 points to keep the Lakers in contention until West and Baylor warmed up in the stretch. West finished with 32 points, including three vital shots in the final quarter. Baylor bucketed 25. Reserve Rudy LaRusso played a powerful game, scoring 20 points and joining Baylor and
substitute center DarraU Imheff in a strong backboard performance that offset the usual rebounding dominance of Boston’s BIO Russell. John Havlicek, enjoying a finer series as a starter, topped Boston with 27 points, while Tom Sanders and Sam Jones each had 23 and Russell contributed 22.

Game Rained Out With Cubs Leading, 9-6 By Jim Alien Greencastle’s Tiger Cubs baseball team received a severe jolt to their morale in Terre Haute Tuesday afternoon. The Cubs, fighting valiantly against WIC foe Honey Creek, sloshed their way in heavy rain and mud to a 9-6 lead after four and one-half innings. In the WIC, all games have to be played until each team or just the visiting team, depending on the situation, has batted five times for the game to be considered official The Cubs came within 2 strikes of this minimum when the umpire refused to continue the game due to the inclement weather. The nine run output was by far the best day at the plate for the Cubs and the Greencastie bats are beginning to boom after a slow start this year. The Tiger Cubs, still looking for their first win, travel to Clinton on Friday to try and remedy this situation.

Braves —- Felipe Alou in particular. Whether it’s the stiff wind blowing across Candlestick Park or simply the Giant pitching that brings out the best In the Braves is guess work but it does the job like nothing else. Atlanta, which has split six decisions in its new Dixie Home, made It two in a row in convincing fashion against San Francisco Tuesday night when they mauled four Giant hurlers for 14 hits and an 11-3 triumph.
