Phi Psi Captures Little 500
nt Kappa. PM put three* quarters of a mile between it* aetf and the opposition Saturday and made off with its fifth consecutive Little 500 bike race championship, Cathie Valeska, senior Ttt Dett. from Elmhurst Park, BL, also won honors. She was elected queen of the gala **500” weekend. Here she is shown with the champs who are, left to right, Ed Steahl, Arlington Heights, HI.; Doug Ulmer, Arcadia, Calif.; Doug Waples, Palo Alto, Calif.; and Steve Ludwig, Elkhart, Ind The team’s winning time was 1:47.22, nine minutes off the track record. Bishop Roberts HaM and Sigma Nu finished second and third in the 15-team, 35-mile race in Blackstock Stadium. Pre-race honors in the new float competition went to Alpha Thu Omega and Lucy Rowland Hall with a giant turtle built on a Volkswagen. They were sponsored by Rouck’s Musk Service. Lambda Chi and Town Houses were second for the College Shop and Beta Theta Phi were third for Goan's Pharmacy. Pi Phi also won the "Miniature 600’’ Friday evening. Major Dick Hall, appropriately garbed and installed on a smoke-spewing World War I bi-plane bicycle fashioned by Delta Tau Delta and TH Delt, captured the Faculty race which was based on costume, vehicle originality and place In the one-lap race. Proceeds from the "little 500" weekend will be used for student scholarships.

Change of Climate Good for N.Y. Mets
by United Prsu International A change of climate has done a world of good for the New York Mets entry in the International League. The Mets* Class AAA farm stub played in Buffalo last season and finished dead last, S4^a games behind pennant-winning Ochimbus. They call themselves the Jacksonville Suns this season and suddenly they are first. New York dunged its working agreements this season and the nucleus of that Buffalo club currently Is represents ting Jacksonville—with far greater success. The Suns won their fourth game without a set back Sunday for beating the Syracuse Chiefs 8-2. Left-handed Ron Nischwitz, who accompanied the Mets north but was sent down when no room could be made for him on the roster, went the distance for Jacksonville, allowing seven hits. Young Greg Goossen, the Mets’ catcher of the future, honored for the Suns and veteran Bill Tuttle hit a round-tripper for Syracuse, which Is 0-4. Ken Rowe saved two games In relief for Rochester, which ■wept a doubleheader from Richmond 5-1 and 5-3. Rowe relieved winner Dave Leonard in the opener and preserved the victory for Bob Scott in the 10-inning nightcap.
A doubleheader between Buffalo and Toledo and a single game between Toronto and Columbus were postponed by rain.
Ward Wins
TRENTON,N. J. UPI—Veteran Indianapolis 500 driver Rodger Ward chalked up his first victory since November, 1963, by winning the rain-short-ened USAC race for Indianapolis cars Sunday at Trenton. Ward took over the lead on the 87th lap when defending USAC national champion Mario Andretti had to stop for a tire change. Ward was leading when the rain began on the 98th lap and the race was stopped four laps later. Ward of Indianapolis, averaged 99.904 miles per hour in the shortened 150-mile race. He drove a rear-engine supercharged Lola. Gordon Johncock, Hastings, Mich., was second, followed by Jim McElreath, Arlington, Tex., Andretti, Nazareth, Pa., and Bud Tinglestad, Hawthorne, Calif. Andretti set a new track record In the qualifying run. His speed of -115.718 miles per hour eclipsed the old mark of 114.4 miles per hour set by Pamelli Jones in 1964.

Tiger Cubs Lose WIC Game
Terre Haute Gerstmeyer’s baseball team, unbeaten in over two years, continued their winning ways Friday afternoon by handing Greencastle it’s second WIC loss, 8 to 1. The Black Cats of Gerstmeyer jumped off to a quick 2 to 0 lead in the first inning on a Oub error and two singlea Greencastle tallied Its lone run in the second inning on hits by Chuck Evens, Terry Ross, and Phil KtdwelL But Gerstmeyer struck back in their third liming on a walk and a home run by Duffer, to increase the lead to 4-1. The Black Oats divided four more runs in each of the fifth and seventh innings to wrap up their second victory of the year. Greencastle, although more productive at the plate than on previous games, left something to be desired in the field. The Tiger Cubs committed 5 errors to hand Gerstmeyer six unearned runs. Cleveland Clinches Hockey Title By United Press International Cleveland clinched its American Hockey League playoff series with Springfield Sunday night and waits for the winner of other Rochester-Quebec set to determine its Calder Cub title opponent. The Barons scored a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Indians. Going into the third period with a 2-0 lead, Springfield’s defense suddenly collapsed as Cleveland slammed in three goals. Bob Ellett and Keith McCreary tied the game, and then Howie Glover scoring the winning goal with 48 seconds to play. In the other series, the Rochester Americans also waited for the final period to win. With the score tied 2-2 Ed Liztenberger scored unassisted at 1:44 and Dick Gamble followed, six minutes later for a final 4-2 score. In a best-of-seven series Rochester leads Quebec 3-2.

GHS Golf Squad Evens Record
Greencastle High School’s golf team evened its season record at 3-3 last night. In a four team meet played at Terre Haute’s Rea Park, Greencastle defeated Schulte 6-4 and Sullivan 10-0. In the same meet Brazil defeated Greencastle 7-3. Mike Troyer was Greencastle’s low medalist, shooting a 40 in the nine hole match as he swept all three matches. Robby Lyon, Greencastle’s number two man, lost his first match. Lyon lost to Stewart of Brazil and defeated both his Sullivan and Schulte opponents. Dan Mont, playing third, shot a 45; Randy Schauwecker, playing fourth man, shot a 44; and Ron Smith, fifth man, shot a 51. Greencastle’s next match is with Brazil, Thursday at Greencastle. DePauw’s golf and track teams claimed first and third in Midlands tournament action in rainy Crawfordsville Saturday. A pair of other athletic engagements drawing Tiger attention were washed out 250 miles apart. DePauw was to have hosted the Midlands tennis tournament but rain did that five-team event in. The elements were too much at Wheaton, 111., where DePauw and Wheaton College were weathered out of a doubleheader. This afternoon DePauw is scheduled to host Butler University in a doubleheader on the Blackstock diamond. Ted Katula’s golf team is at Evansville. Stroking through rain and high winds, DePauw’s golfers captured their second consecu-
tive Midlands golf tournament. DePauw won the 18-hole meet with 308 strokes. Wabash was second with 318 followed by St. Joseph’s, Valparaiso and Wheaton. Tim Scott carded a 75 for DePauw. He was followed by Bruce Spand and Nick Gordon with 77’s and Randy Reifer with a 79. Showing all Its power in the running events, the Tiger track team finished third in the fiveteam meet at Wabash. The host Cavemen won with 78 points. Valparaiso was next with 60, followed by DePauw 57^4, Wheaton 46, and St. Joseph’s 13%.
