In streasing Bike Safety Week, The Op timist Club will hold an inspection of bicycles, pass out a safety code, and some decorations to all boys and girls prior to the parade to be held on Saturday. All boys and girls wishing to enter their bikes are to be at toe downtown gym on Walnut Street at 1 p. m. on Saturday. In case of rain it will be held next weekend. Frank C. Scott, general chairman announced today.
Approximately 2000 Putnam County children enjoyed toe colorful Shrine Circus last weekend in Indianapolis. Children from all over the county attended the circus compliments of many local business men and charitable people. Max Giltz, local circus chairman, and his helpers made the circus party pos-
sible by soliciting money in program ads and gifts. John Knight, local club president, and the Putnam Shriners wish to thank all the individuals and firms who helped with transportation, money, and personal assistance.
Map Plans For Viet Flection SAIGON UPI—Viet Nam’s military government mapped plans today for holding national elections despite Buddhist charges it was secretly plotting to renege on promises of a civilian government within three to five months. Government sources said details for the election would be outlined in a series of decrees which will be issued soon. No definite time has been set The government had no official comment on charges leveled Wednesday night by Thich Thien Minh that Premier Nguyen Cao Ky and the ruling military junta were planning, with American connivance, to doublecross the Buddhists and find ways of remaining in power. “As far as I know, there may be a coup d’etat soon,’’ he said, explaining that through such a “false” maneuver the military might hold onto toe government even though Ky is ousted. “The Buddhists at the present time should be ready to fight because the Buddhists believe the government is plotting something and Is not sincere about doing what they have promised,” Minh said. He said Americans opposed the free elections because they feared Communists would enter the country and they would be asked to leave the country, and he hinted that they were encouraging the military in their devious schemes. Minh was a co-leader of the United Buddhist Church Committee which directed the wild anti- government demonstrations that shook the country for weeks and forced the promise of civilian elections.

Correct Defender Should Win Trick An old bridge partner of mine always doubled the opponents when they stopped at two notrump. “If they could make two, they’d have bid three,” he used to explain. His theory didn’t always work, but it was excit-

few college students found the best defense. Declarer wins toe first trick in dummy with the ten of clubs and leads a low spade from dummy. An inexperienced East would play low, and South could play either his low card or the nine. West would have to win with the queen of spades, and West would be unable to continue toe attack on clubs. South would get four spade tricks, two hearts, one diamond and one dub, making his contract of two notrump. EAST’S PLAY East can defeat the contract by winning a spade trick to lead a club through South. When the low spade is led from dummy at the second trick,
Blast must put up the ten of spades. If South plays low, Blast wins the trick and leads a club at once. If South plays the ace of spades at the second trick, West must drop the queen. Otherwise, South would lead another spade and let West win the second spade trick with the queen. After the correct first trick in spades, South cannot develop the suit without giving a trick to East. The defenders thus get a spade and five clubs, defeating the contract. DAILY QUESTION Partner opens with 1 NT (16 to 18 points), and the next player passes. You hold: S-Q 3; H-10 6 5; D-Q 3; C-A Q 9 6 3 2. What do you say? Answer: Bid 3 NT. Since you have 10 points in high cards, the combined total must be 26 to 28 points, enough for game, but not enough for slam and probably not enough for game in clubs. Game at notrump is the best shot.

WASHINGTON UPI — Some of the people asked to attend antipoverty meetings are so poor they can’t afford the trip. So the government is going to give them expense accounts. The Office of Economic Opportunity OEO said Thursday it expected that expenses would be claimed by many of the 28,000 persons working in the policymaking bodies of community action program across the nation. An OEO spokesman said the agency hoped there wouldn’t be any expense account padders.
