Weather Front Still Turbulent By United Press International A long thunderstorm squall line, remnant of another night of turbulent weather, stretched today from eastern Michigan to southwest Texas. Scores of wind, rain and hail storms struck a seven-state area Wednesday night. Small tornadoes were reported in several states. Behind the storm front, a blast of cold air moved down across the northern Plains and upper Midwest. Rain changed to snow in upper Michigan, and Houghton was covered with an inch by this morning. A high temperature of 38 degrees Wednesday was the lowest high ever recorded there for that date. Nearly 2 inches of rain hit Tuscola, HI., in just two hours Wednesday night. Monroe, La., recorded almost 3 inches in six hours, and Tupelo, Miss., measured more than inches. A tornado touched down at a trailer park near Kankakee, 111., Wednesday night, toppled two trailers and injured one person.

Don’t unblock when your partner has most of the high cards. He will be able to get to his hand with a side suit if his main suit blocks, and it may cost you a trick to waste one of your high cards in his long suit DAILY QUESTION Partner opens with one diamond, and the next player passes. Th* Daily Bannar, Graancastla, Indiana t Thursday, April 21, 1966 ^ Future Of GOP To Be Major Topic Of Republican Editors
INDIANAPOLIS UPI — The precarious future of the Indiana GOP is sure to be a major topic of party leaders attending the spring meeting of the Indiana Republican Editorial Association in Indianapolis Saturday. Uncertainty snout the state organization and the dismal financial picture distress the party chiefs. Because of the congressional redistricting, resignations and normal rivaltries, more than half of the state committee members will no longer hold their offices after the reorganization meeting, a survey has determined. Also, party leaders believe that the GOP leadership in at least 25 counties will change. This leads to the possibility that state chairman Charles O. Hendricks will be challenged for reeleotion at the reorganization meeting on May 11. A faction headed by Robert Gates, Columbia City, 4th District chairman, and H. Dale Brown, Indianapolis, llth District chairman has been at loggerheads with Hendricks for some time. Gates nearly was chosen state chairman at a committee meeting some time ago, but he said today that he is not an aspirant. He is a former American Legion state commander and son of former Gov. Ralph F. Gates. Young Gates ran unsuccessfully for the gubernatorial bid in 1964, along with Hendricks, former State Treasurer Robert Hughes of Greenwood. Former LL Gov. Richard O. Ristine was the nominee then. Gates, Ellis and Hendricks, if he should be ousted as state
chairman, are regarded as possible 1968 gubernatorial candidates. A new face in that picture is Dr. Earl Buts, head of the Purdue University School of Agriculture and former assistant secretary of agriculture during the regime of President Eisenhower. The demise or The Almanac, issued by the state committee, has shattered Indiana GOP finances. The Republicans also are bereft of the thousands of dollars levied upon statehouse workers for the party war chest in the days when the Republiccans were in power. The Almanac was killed by the committee because a new federal law bans income tax deductions for advertisers.
50 Die, 127 Hurt la Truitt Blast CALCUTTA, India UPI—An explosion believed set off by dynamite shattered a passenger train at Lumding in the northeastern Indian state of Assam late Wednesday night, killing an estimated 50 persons and injuring 127 others. Many of the injured were reported seriously hint by the explosion which rocked the train as it stood at the station. Police blamed the blast on sabotage by rebel Naga tribesmen. Only a few hours before the blast, Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Ghandi told Parliament in New Delhi that negotiations with the mountain tribesmen had reached a “delicate stage” but were moving in the right direction.
