NEWS OF HOLLYWOOD By VEBNON SCOTT HOLLYWOOD UPI — Movie ■tan Sandy Koufax and Don Diyadale were replaced today by a pair of lesser lights in their roles In a forthcoming film. Fittingly, Sandy's role was taken by left-handed Los Angeles tele vision newscaster Jerry Dunphy, while Drysdale’s part was assumed by right-
handed John Garfield, Jr. Tn«t*arf of working a week or two in “Warning Shot,” Dunphy and Garfield will labor a single day befqpre the cameras. Their wages will be only a fraction of the $10,000 that Koufax-Drys-dale were scheduled to earn. One can only assume their parts have been whittled away, too. Whereas Drysdale was to play a police detective, Garfield will portray a common, ordinary cop. Dunphy as the newscaster doubtless will have less news to cast in the picture.
Moreover, the replacements will not actually go to week for another month. Koufax-Drys-dale were supposed to ham it 19 this week. Dunphy and Garfield had lunch at Paramount Studios, meeting one another for the first time. “Haven’t I seen you on TV?” Garfield, a tall, handsome, lookalike for his father, asked Dunphy. ‘Tm on the air six nights a week for KNXT,” said Dunphy. “Oh,” Garfield said. There was an embarrassed silence. Dunphy broke the silence with the news that he is a Dodger fan.
•Wot me* said Garfield. ‘Tm a Met fan, Z used to root for the Dodgers in Brooklyn, but now Tm pulling for the Mets.” How do the boys feel about replacing the two famous Dodger pitchers?
“This Whole thing makes me feel like a one-inning reliever,” Dunphy grinned. Garfield thought it over and said, “Well, at least we’re getting into the game.”
Park Is Scene Of Teenage Piet WASHINGTON UPI — Thousands of rock-throwing, shouting teenagers rampaged through a suburban amusement park near the capital for several hours Monday night The riot broke out shortly after 5 p.m., EST at the Glen Echo amusement park on the Potomac, three miles northwest of the District of Columbia in Montgomery County, Md. Police managed to contain the rioters, estimated at between 3,000 and 4,000, about 3% hours later. But not before uncounted car wind-
shields and windows had been smashed within a mile radius of the park. At one point it appeared the swelling throngs of youngsters, most of them Negro, might spill over into northwest Washington where some of the capital’s most fashionable residential areas are located. The northwest section has long been an all-white enclave in this predominantly Negro city. But Montgomery County and Washington metropolitan police emphasized repeatedly that the riot had no racial overtones. They succeeded in isolating small groups of youths as they straggled down Massachusetts
Avenue and eventually dispersed the mob. There were, however, reports of isolated acts of vandalism by roving groups of teenagers in Washington. A bank window within a half-mile of the White House was smashed and twq youths were arrested. In the capital’s northwest section bot-tle-throwing youths attempted to smash the windshields of four police cars. At least two persons were known to be injured and unofficial reports put the total as high as seven, none seriously. A white youth and a fireman were treated at a suburban hospital after they were struck by rocks.
