High School Students Are Urged To Seek Careers In Rehabilitation Field
MOBILE, Alabama—“Indiana high school students looking forward to college are urged to consider careers in the professional field associated with rehabilitation,” Sue Anne Starnes, Easter Seal Teenage Chairman and Indiana's Junior Miss for 1966, said today at the National Junior Miss Pageant. Miss Starnes said, "Because of critical shortages of trial persons to work with the handicapped there are enormous opportunities NOW for young people to investigate the fields of physical, occupational and speech therapy, special educatkm, social work, counseling and these fields currently list thousands at job openings. "But this is only part of the total picture,” she stressed.
"There is a great need now for many thousands of other trained personnel in related fields Including phychologists, researchers, counselors and laboratory technicians. 'To meet the challenge of providing adequate service to increased numbers of both children and adults, the Indiana Societies for Crippled Children and Adults has launched a campaign to interest high school and college students in careers in the various rehabilitation fields. Among other efforts, the Society’s last two annual conventions have placed heavy emphasis on the situation,” she pointed out. "Now we want to add toe voice of this Easter Seal affiliate in urging young people to look into toe stimulation and
satiafoeUon at earning a living in one of the rehabilitation professions.” Some at the ways in which Ugh schools and prospective college students can prepare for these careers are outlined in pamphlets available from toe Indiana Society for Crippled Children and Adults, 8616 North Sherman Dr., Indianapolis. Students may visit toe Easter Seal centers throughout Indiana upon appointment and see therapists to work with crippled childrat. Miss Starnes emphasized that funds contributed by toe public during toe current Easter Seal Campaign, March 1 through April 10, Easter Sunday, make possible the services at professional persons available to crippled children and adults.

A spokesman at toe U.S. mission said about 100 Americans were flown to a nearby Marine base, leaving behind only a few civilians in the consulate and a handful of soldiers in the Military Assistance Command headquarters. Indiana’s Chancts For Rain Are Said To Be ‘Excellent’
LAFAYETTE UPI — The prospect for “good spring rains” in Indiana is “excellent” according to state climatologist L. A. Schall in a report released Monday. The report said recent precipitation shortages had little or no effect on topsoil and subsoil moisture levels. Precipitation was generally above normal in toe first two months of 1966 but below normal In March. Robert E. Straszheim, agricultural statistician at Purdue University, said in his first weekly crop report of too season that soil moisture levels were considered “adequate.” A warming trend will be needed to accelerate vegetative growth activity which slowed or halted during the last two weeks of March, particularly in toe north, toe report said. But pastures were reported considerably ahead of last year’s ratings at this time. The
report said pastures arc now “poor to mostly fair.” “The per cent of cattle feed from pastures is the highest in the last four-year period," said Straszheim. “At 10 per cent, it ia double the rate set a year earlier.” Winter wheat was an inch above the five-year average at four inches, which la two inches move than last year or toe year before. Small grains were reported progressing nicely, with greening particularly noticeable. Straszheim said that while spring seeding at oats was just getting under way at this time in 1965, it is 40 per cent complete at toe present time. “The plowing of land intended for corn and aoybaans is 35 per cent complete compared with 15 per cant complete at this time last year and only 5 per cent for the fiveyear average," toe report said.

Dr. L. A. Wilhelm, general manager of the Poultry and Egg National Board, told the institution a recent study showed that 72 per cent of those families queried did not eat breakfast together. “Forty-two per cent of Americans ate no breakfast this morning at home,” he said. “Perhaps the kids had a coke and candy bar at school. Dad ‘took’ coffee and a roll at, or near, the office. Sis ‘dieted.’ Mom ‘nibbled’.” Wilhelm said the study showed that in a third of the homes someone slept through breakfast and in another third the mother did not prepare breakfast for the family. Ttie change, he said, was “of utmost importance to both eggs and pork products, and of great importance to the milk as well as the cereal grain producer.” He pointed out that where breakfast was served, 54 per cent served eggs, 39 per cent had butter on the table, 24 per cent served bacon, 8 per cent had sausages and 34 per cent had coid cereal.

Other thousands celebrated toe passage of the Jews across the Red Sea with services in synagogues across the nation. The celebration this year contrasted sharply with those of
