A CARD OF THANKS

. '' . . . For thirty years, 1935-65, this unsung community followed their basketball teams through the seasons and journeyed to Greencastle for the tourneys, full of hope and enthusiasm, and returned beaten and bewildered with tear stained cheeks, often a bridesmaid but never a bride. We became known as “those slobs in the south end of the county” The theme song became “We’ll Get Em Next Year” Then during the 1963-64 season we began to notice the “B” team, at the close of the season someone said “Why they’re undefeated.” We all came back the next November “gymless” and started again, after a veiy good season we emerged with a County, a Sectional and a Regional Championship under our belts and everyone kind of stared at each other in disbelief but idiotically happy. This year the disbelievers said “Well, that’s it, they won’t be that good again.” After an 18 game scheduled season unmarred by a loss, a slap in the face by Bainbridge in the County Tournament, several broken fingers, noses and a round with mononucleosis, we started for Brazil and braced; Brazil, Terre Haute, and Evansville, and finally we ended up at Hinkle House. The people kind of looked at each other in the stands, as if to say “pinch me I’m dreaming.” We lost the ball game but not the pride, everyone came home to a bonfire and stood at least 10 feet tall. This little group of perfectly ordinary looking boys had elevated us out of the mud and up on cloud nine. So we say to you, THANK YOU

THANK YOU FROM OUR HEARTS AND WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU
