TORPEDO THAT HEARS—A torpedo that Marches out its prey by sending out sound signals and “hearing” the echoes is being made by the Clevite Corp. in Cleveland for the U.S. Navy. Technician Leonard Rieck tests the guidance system circuitry here. It is expected to be the most powerful antisubmarine weapon ever devised. Called the Mark 48. It will be used by nuclear subs. In black section of the nose are the “vocal chords” as well as the "ear” that "listens” to echoes.

Confusion As To Boys Clobs NEW YORK UPI—The Boys Chib of America reported with anguish today that it was being confused with the W. E. B. Dubois Clubs of America because of the similarity in the pronundatian of the two groups’ names—and receiving threats as a result The confusion arose because of radio and television news accounts involving the Dubois dubs. Last week the Justice Department acted in Washington to require the Dubois dubs to register as a Communist brant group and on Sunday an explosion damaged the national headquarters In San lYanciaeo of the youth group. "People have been calling us and saying, “don’t expect me to give you another dime’ or ‘maybe I ought to throw a brick through your window',” said Edward J. Stapleton, public information director of the Boys dubs. ‘This can very badly hurt us financially if the lid isn’t put on It" Farmer Vice President Richard K. Nixon, who succeeded the lata former President Herbert Hoover as national board chairman of the Boys dub, authorized a statement about the confusion. In it, he said: "Because ... of the unfortune similarity in the pronunciation of the 1X11)018 Clubs’ and the *Boys dub of America’, some people have been misled into confusing one organization with the other. "This is an almost classic example of Communist deception and duplicity,” Nixon said.
Bandits Ransack Widow's Home INDIANAPOLIS UPI—Three bandits tied up a maid with tape Monday and ransacked the home of the widow of an industrial executive who was killed in a plane crash. The men entered the home of Mrs. Harriet Cain by posing as florist’s deliverymen. They tied Mrs. Clara Hester, 61, to a kitchen chair and casually ransacked the house, apparently' looking fruitlessly for a wall safe with valuables. They took a mink coat, a mink stole, a Persian Lamb coat and a quantity of Jewelry. Mrs. Cain was not at home. She Is the widow of JpMph E. Cain, who was co-chairman of the board of the P. R. Mallory Co. here. Cain was killed in a Florida airliner crash in 1963.
State Receives Federel Greats WASHINGTON UPI — A flurry of federal grants were announced Monday for Indiana, including approval of more than 92 million for an urban renewal project at South Bend. The South Bend grant amounted to 92,224,613 for the 200-acre “Lasalle Park No. 1” urban renewal project. Utree Indiana countlek-^L*tw-renee. Orange and Washington —received a U. S. grant of 981,947 for work among senior citizens. The Economic Development Corp., will get 950,308 for development activities and 931,639 will bo used for administration Lawrence E. Anderson is project director. A 912,792 grant was awarded by the government to the Allen County Economic Opportunity Counsel, Lie., for a development program. William G. Williams as executive director of the Community Action Agency. A 926,390 grant was awarded by the Office of Economic opportunity to Family Counselling Service, Inc. The announcement of the grants was made jointly by Indiana Democratic Sena. Birch Bayh and Vance Hartke. Moo Is Found Shot To Death KNOX UPI — A man was found shot to death in his home at nearby Oak Grove today and authorities said it was "definitely” a case of homicide. The victim was tentatively identified as Barney Mora. State police said their preliminary report said he was shot by his son, who is being questioned by Starke County authorities and other officers. Circumstances surrounding the shooting were not known. Oak Grove is a small community about eight miles east of here. Nation's Traffic Dead Increase CHICAGO UPI—The nation’s traffic death toll rose 4 per cent for the month of January to a high of 3,660, the National Safety Council has estimated. The increase was 180 persons killed on streets and highways than in January of 1965. In other figures released Monday, the council said 250,000 persons sustained disabling injuries from traffic accidents in January and another 250,000 sustained lesser injuries.

Beaman, 18, city, was fined 910 and costs Monday by Judge Francis N. Hamilton on a public intoxication charge. Beaman had entered a plea of guilty last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Neal and and Mr. and Mrs. Foster Jones had dinner Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. John Boatright of near Fillmore, who observed their 34th wedding anniversary. Hubert J. Smalts, 616 Anderson Street, has received word of the death of his father, Roy G. Smaltz, on Sunday in Carrington, North Dakota. Time of the funeral was uncertain due to weather conditions in that state. Louis McNutt of Robinson, Illinois, was here the past week-end, a visitor at the Delta Upsilon fraternity and he attended the annual initiation. He is an alumni officer of the DePauw chapter, and there were several officers of the fraternity in Michigan, Ohio and Illinois here also. The CWF of Sherwood Christian Church will hold its March meeting at the home of Mrs. Robert Fletcher, on Wednesday, March 9 at 7:30 p. m. The program will consist of two films on cancer. They are: "Time and Two Women” and “Breast Self Examination.” Mrs. John Richards will be in charge of the worship and Mbs. Gerald Edwards will be co-hostess. The WSCS of the Cioverdale Methodist Church will have their regular monthly meeting at the home of Mrs, Maude Farmer Thursday, March 10 at 11:30 AM. This will be a pitchin dinner. A reception honoring Ruby Everman Grand Representative to Quebec Grand Chapter was held Saturday evening, March 5, at the Roachdale School Gymnasium. Mildred Fitzsimmons entertained with a piano prelude. Sister Ruby was escorted by her husband to the place of honor through an We formed by the Roachdale officers holding flags of the United States and Canada. She was met by the Worthy Matron and given a hearty welcome. Invocation was given by Rev. Ray Britton of Roachdale. Sister Mary HoUand, Worthy Matron, welcomed all present in behalf of the Chapter. Bro. John Burdette, Worthy Patron introduced Bro. Aaron Elliott P.G.P. and Bro. Harold Koenig Grand Marshal. Other Grand Representatives and other ofofficers were asked to introduce themselves. “This Is Your Life, Ruby Everman” Was given by Mary Holland depicting the life of the honored guest. The very impressive story of Ruth was given by Bro. Britton. The program continued with several special numbers given by the Montgomery County church which was greatly enjoyed by all present. Sister Ruby gave a very interesting and inspiring address introduced many of her grand family who were present. Also their husbands .and wives. District Deputy No. 9. And each member of her family. Ruby thanked the Chapter for the lovely reception. She also expressed her appreciation to every one who had come to share the evening with her. In closing Bob Jones sang “The Lord’s Prayer.” The guests were invited to the beautifully decorated refreshment table. Punch and cake was served by members of the chapter. The decorations of the room and table were in yellow and green in keeping with Ruby’s colors when she was Worthy Matron. Her motto was Loving Service. Flower, the yellow rose. About 160 guests were present from Mulberry, Darlington, Lafayette, Lawrenceburg, Aurora, Groveland, Catlin, Brigeton, Clinton, Ladoga, Crawfordsville, Waveland, Waynetown. New Market, Linden, Rockville, Greencastle, Russellville, Goshen, Plymouth, Fillmore, Brazil, Terre Haute and Roachdale. Ruby invited the officers and guests to her home after leaving the auditorium. She was recipient of many lovely gifts.
Mm. Olive Harcourt Is Hostess To Club On the 3rd. day of March the Thursday Club was entertained at the home of Mrs. Olive Harcourt with fourteen members and one guest to enjoy Hie good dinner. Afternoon the meeting was called to order by our President Mrs. Kathleen Walton with the group singing the Club song “America”. Mrs. Elma Lewis offered Prayer. News Of Boys U. 8. ARMY, EUROPE (AHTNC) — Army Specialist Four James A. Cooper, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Cooper, 1019 8. Indiana 8t, Greencastle, Lid., was awarded the Driver’s Badge Feb. 3, while serving with the 7th Evacuation Hospital in Germany. Specialist Cooper entered the Army in January 1964. He completed baric training at Fort Gordon, Ga., was last stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Tex., and arrived oveseas in July 1964. He is assigned as a medical specialist at the hospital. The 25-year-old soldier is a 1961 graduate of Greencastle High School and was employed by the Heath Funeral Chapel, Lakeland, Fla., before entering the Army.

Ola Ruark Anti-Reds Seize Foreign Office SINGAPORE UPI— Rioting anti-Communist students seized the foreign ministry in Jakarta today while leftist-leaning Foreign minister Subandrio was condemning American "aggression” in Viet Nam at a mass women’s rally, radio reports said. The clandestine voice of F'ree Indonesia which oppose the Jakarta government said 8,000 students denouncing Subandrio’s pro-Communist views bulled their way into the building and sacked the office. They carried such banners as "Hang Subandrio,” "Dissolve the Gestapo cabinet,” the report said. Troops and police stood by without interfering. Subandrio, meanwhile, appeared before a mass rally commemorating international Women’s Day and said the government accepted a number of anti-American resolutions. One, reported reworded by President Sukarno, attacked American aggression” in both South and North Viet Nam.

Johnson Rejects DeGaulle Note WASHINGTON UPI—President Johnson has bluntly informed French President Charles de Gaulle that the United States will not bargain away the foundations of the North Atlantic Treaty Alliance (NATO) behind the backs of its other allies. In a swift note to the French president, Johnson rejected a French proposal for immediate Washington - Paris discussions aimed at eventual liquidation of U.S. bases and supply lines in France. De Gaulle, who is fearful that too close ties with the United States might drag France into a war it doesn’t favor elsewhere in the world, wants to get rid of NATO headquarters within the next two years.
Hospital Will Stop Publicity VALPARAISO UPI — Trustees of Porter Memorial Hospital have decided to stop publishing the names of persons admitted to the hospital in an effort to cut down on the volume of visitors. Administrator Arthur Malasto recommended the action after reporting to the board that people read about their friends being hospitalized, then hop into their cars and rush there to call on them. Complaints included that some persons get a visitor card at the reception desk and “hop from room to room” to bring about confusion during visiting
hours.
Board members said they supported the proposal with some reluctance because publishing lists of admissions is a public service.
Heart Machine JOHANNESBURG, South Africa UPI—An electronic engineer said he has invented a method of making electrocardiograph recordings accurate enough to warn doctors in advance of heart attacks. Dr. Carl Posel said his improvements would enable heart disease to be pinpointed in its early stages. He said he hoped mobile heart clinics could be established using the new method.

MILLER School News Construction proceeds on schedule according to the sidewalk superintendents. Maple syrup time and Mr. Avery plans to tap a couple of hard maples for the sugar water. Sometimes he boils it in the school kitchen so the pupils can watch the full process. One of the 4th grade boys realizing that the teachers have been restless, fatigued, or sick, brought a sure cure—sassafras roots—and distributed them. Dispositions were better next
day.
Much enthusiasm toward the 4-H program was expressed as 40 girls at Miller signed up for projects. Mrs. Larry Dickey and Mrs. Jerry Williams will be leading the girls. Recently three elementary principals from Vigo County visited in the morning and through lunch. The rest of the day they visited the other elementary schools. They were especially interested in the Teacher Aides. We felt quite honored that Messrs. Asbury, Heimer and Jackson selected the Greencastle schools for a
visit
Many new library books are arriving. Mrs. Lloyd Cooper has assumed responsibility for the library and has explained library procedure to all the rooms. Circulation has increased greatly.
City School News The Greencastle Community School Corporation is trying to equalize the educational opportunities in the four Elementary Schools. The present building programs at Miller and Ridpath are part of these efforts. They want to - assure the parents that no matter which school their child attends they will have almost equal facilities and opportunities to learn. Somewhere in the plans for Ridpath showers and lockers for the boys and girls to use with the expanded phyrical education program and adequate storage facilities have been overlooked. The present storage rcom will be expanded into an eating area for the cafeteria and the one shower that is now there removed. The present multipurpose room will become a gym. Plans for Miller include shower facilities.
Drug Crackdown BIRMINGHAM, England UPI—A pamphlet on how to spot drug addicts has been distributed to teachers at 250 schools here by the city department of education because of a “potentially dangerous” situation. The department said an investigation had shown pep pills and marijuana were widely available to teen-agers in Birmingham and there had been two cases of children taking heroin, although there was no evidence of widespread addiction.
Mm Killed In Timber Accident Robert E. Schroer, 26, Cloverdale R. 1, was accidently killed Monday while cutting timber in Owen County. He was born in Owen County, January 27, 1940, the son pf Kenneth and Mildred Casebeer Schroer. Survivors are: his wife, Irene Fay Cummings Schroer; one daughter, Lisa and one son, Robert at home; his parents, Kenneth and Mildred Schroer, Poland, R. 1; five sisters; Miss Leanna Schroer, Indianapolis; Mrs. Sandra Cox, Brownsburg; Mrs. Donna Keith, Freedom; Karen and Kathy at home; Ms paternal grandmother, Flora Schroer, Poland. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Whitaker Funeral Home to Cloverdale|. Brother Clarence Clarence Barr will officiate, with interment in Olive Hill Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home in Cioverdale after 1:00 p.m. Wednesday.
To Visit Israel BONN UPI — Former West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer will visit Israel the begining of May at the invitation of the Israeli government, it was announced Monday. Adenauer, 90, leaves for Paris Tuesday for a previously announced visit with French President Charles de Gaulles.
