“When I criticised her the next monring and talked about loyalty, she became so indignant that aha spent that entire working day trying to stir up unrest about me as an employer.” Today many employers believe that loyalty Is dead. Few of them ever bother to give good opportunities to employees who lack a sense of loyalty in their approach to a job. So if you are lax in this respect, start today to get in line for more opportunity by taking your em-

As one example of how to do this, stop excusing yourself from the things you can see that needs to be dona simply because no cos has said that the job Is up to you. If no one is thmo to do It at the time and something ought to be done, be loyal and useful enough to take time to do it yourself.
Also, bs the kind of employee who known how to accept criticism and orders ftom superiors with a positive attitude. Take the viewpoint that your employers deserve your re«pecL And accept tiie fact that it la their job to ten you what to do. Tenacious Defender Is Choice Partner By Alfred Shelnwold .... If you go to Louisville to kibitz the national tournament, you’ll see a worried look on every expert's face. The expert cannot relax, because all hands are equally important. He can win ( or lose) as many match points at two of a suit as at a grand slam. South dealer North-Sooth vriheraH* NORTH * K53 V 964 O KQ10 *11093 WEST EAST *J10 * AQ82 VS532 7 O A9763 O J«54 * A2 SOUTH * 9764 VAKflJIO Swth w£ K 3L» Pub 1 NT Paw 29 All Fa» > Oparins Bad — * f If today’s hand were played at rubber bridge the defenders might allow South to make his contract out of sheer lack of interest in the outcome. Since the hand was played in a tournament nobody relaxed. West led the jack of spades, declarer played low from tits dummy, and East signalled encouragement with the eight. This trick told West that his partner had the ace and queen of spades; it was foyigb to defeat the contract. If you have already mentally led the ten of spades next from the West hand slap yourself mentally and tell yourself not to
be so thoughtless. You must make a key play before continuing the spades. VITAL SWITCH The actual West player led the ace of clubs at the second trick. Then he switched back to spades. South played low again from the dummy, but East did not make the mistake of allowing West’s ten to hold the trick. East overtook with the queen of spades and cashed the ace, allowing West to discard the deuce ef ehibe. New East returned a dub for Wast to raff. West then took the aetting trick with the ace of diamonds,, completing a gemUke defense. Incidentally, don’t sniff at this kind ef play even If you don’t care for tournaments, Everybody’s favorite partner is the Mg holder, but the next choice is ths tenacious defender. DAILY QUESTION Partner opens with one spade, and the next player passes. You hold: S-J 10 H-8 5 3 2 D-A 9 TBS C-A 2. What do you say? ANSWER; Bid 1 NT. You cannot quite afford to bid two diamonds. Death Penalty For Saigon Merchant SAIGON UPI — South Viet Nam’s new court for economic crimes today convicted a wealthy Saigon businessman of price speculation, hoarding and bribing and sentenced him to death. Ta Vinh, 35, a Chinese merchant who directed the Sui King Import-Export Co., was found guilty after an all-day trial by three military officers serving as judges of the special
court. The court was created after Prime Minister Nguyen Cao Ky. promised to wage war on hoarders and profiteers Who have been blamed for much of Viet Nam’s economic ills, including rampant inflation. Ky reportedly promised President Johnson at last month’s Honolulu conference to speed efforts to clean up corruption. Ky personally presided over the court’s opening ceremonies this morning in the yellow stucco Saigon court building near the presidential palace.
