Read Address By Washington WASHINGTON UPI — The House whizzed and the Senate dragged through their annual ritual reading of George Washington’s farewell address Tues-
day.
About 10 senators were on hand for the delivery by Sen. Lee Metcalf, D-Mont., and exactly 21 members were in their seats when Rep. Patsy Takemoto Mink, D-Hawaii, started her rendition. Mrs. Mink, who had practiced, set a new speed record for the event. She completed the 7,641-word address in a flat 40 minutes, besting the previous mark by a couple of seconds. Humphrey had unsuccessfully sought support for the American position in Viet Nam during his recent visit to India. She said she did not pledge India’s support because of “India’s position as a non-aligned country.” In remarks before parliament, Mrs. Gandhi also said "there is no truth” to reports that she had ordered Indian government ministers not to criticize U.S. Viet Nam policy.
She said Humphrey explained the U.S. position in Viet Nam and “expressed the hope that we would do everything possible to facilitate a peaceful solution of the problem.” “We expressed our concern at the danger of escalation of the conflict and our anxiety that a peaceful solution should be found for which the framework of the Geneva agreement formed the best basis,” Mrs.
Gandhi said.
Hey American*... is money the only thing you save?
Money is the basis of your savings—but it’s not an end in itself. When you start buying U. S. Savings Bonds, you're saving a lot more than money. For one thing you’re helping to make the future safe. Safe for yourself, your family, and your countrymen. With Bonds, yon build security. Nobody is handing you anything. You save for it. You save for emergencies. Edu-
cation for your children. A larger home, a newer car, a dream vacation. And you save for satisfaction. The satisfaction in knowing that you’re a financially responsible citizen. So the next time somebody asks yOu what an American can do to help, his country—tell him to get into the saving habit with U. S. Savings Bonds. Just like you’re doing. He’ll be saving more than money.
