Broad Ripple’s fired up Rockets blasted out of sight from Greencastie’s visiting Tiger Cubs last night as the Indianapolis team grabbed a 4-0 lead and refused to back off. The loss made the local crew 16-4 for the season. The contest was Greencas tie’s last of the season until they meet Bainbridge in the local sec thmal next week while Broad Ripple is slated to meet Indianapolis Washington in their sectional. breaking tactics of the Rockets during the first four minutes of the contest, 17-10, but came back with the same opposition in the closing minutes of the quarter to trail by only four, 17-21. Troyer collected eight points in the quarter and Chadd nine— no one else on the Cub roster connected. Greencastle tossed in 8 for 26 tries from the field, while the Rockets connected on 8 for 22—but dumped in five charity stripe attempts. With 1:32 left in the third period Greencastle felt the effect of personal foul calls as McCracken’s right hand man, Jim Chadd, left the'Contest with five calls against him. The Cubs were called for 18 personals. The Tiger Cubs failed to recuperate from the bombardment of the Rockets during the rest of the performance and finally bowed out to the Broad Ripple team 96-73. For the contest, Greencastle connected on 28 of 72 tries from the field for a .389 percentage while Broad Ripple tucked away 41 for 73 attempts for a respectable .561. Roachdale’s Hawks got hit where it hurt last night—in the height department, and Montgomery County Champs New Market trimmed the Putnam County representatives 63-54. Roachdale ended the season with a 9-10 record and is scheduled to meet Russellville in the Greencastle Sectional next week. The Hawks grabbed a 20-11 first period lead on the tall boys from New Market and managed to hold onto it during tiie second period and end of tiie half holding a one point margin, 34-33. New Market called on their height advantage during the quarter and pulled out in front of the Hawks 48-45 and, under the same advantage, rolled on to a 15 point fourth quarter. Roachdale shot a beautiful .444 percentage with 24 of 54 while New Market added an even better 25 of 46 shots from the field for a remarkable .541. Local Sectional To Be Broadcast By WGRE Radio This year WGRE will once again broadcast the sectional basketball action. The dates for this coverage are February 24, 25 and 26 at 6:45 p.m. Thursday evening, February 24, WGRE will broadcast two games, one between Cascade and Fillmore and the other between Rockville and North Salem. Friday evening February 25, WGRE will broadcast the game between Russellville and Roachdale and also the game between Bainbridge and Greencastle. The station will also broadcast the championship game Saturday evening February 26, at 7:45 p.m.

American football league attendance has increased 72.7 per cent in the past four years.

Fillmore ended their regular season of play last night by downing Staunton’s Yellow Jackets at Brazil and turning in a 16-3 overall record. The Cards won the contest, 86-76. Fillmore is scheduled to meet Cascade’s Cadets in the first round of the sectional tournament next Thursday night. The Cards jumped into a 2015 first period margin and added 26 points in the second period to claim a thirteen point margin, 46-33. They wound their way into a 21 point lead in the early minutes of the third period, but the Yellow Jackets fought their way back and the Cards led by only eleven at the close of the period, 63-52. Paced by Bright and Glaze the Cards popped in a 23-point fourth stanza while the downed Staunton crew tossed in a 24point quarter. Staunton hit S3 field goals that out did the Cardinal out put of 32, but Fillmore tossed in 20 free throws to Staunton’s 10. Glaze dumped in 29 points while Bright added 28 to the Card cause. Grigsby led the host attack with 20 points while teammates Irwin, Peoples, and Tihberhan hit for 18, 16, and 13 points respectively. Garrett Reigns Only Unbeaten INDIANAPOLIS UPI—Garrett wound up an unbeaten season Friday night to carry the only perfect record into the next week’s opening round of the Indiana high school basketball championship tourney. The fifth-ranked Railroaders, with 7-foot Chuck Bavis hitting 28 points, blasted Hamilton, 8340, for their 20th straight regular season victory. They open state tourney action next Thursday night against Cromwell in the Kendallville sectional. Two major conference championships were settled in Friday’s next-to-last night of regular season action and a fourth will not be completely settled until tonight. Michigan City, ranked fourth in the state by the UPI coaches’ board, clinched at least a share of the Northern Conference title by beating South Bend Riley, 77-59. Top-ranked South Bend Central can tie for the crown by beating Elkhart tonight. Central and Michigan City also shared the championship last year. Evansville Harrison, ranked eighth, trampled city foe Mater Dei, 71-20, to repeat as Southern Conference champ. Marion won the North Central Conference title by beating Muncie Central, 71-54. Gary Andrean downed Chicago Little Flower, 65-62, to tie Merrillville Academy of Des Plaines, HI., for the Metropolitan Catholic Conference title. Indianapolis Howe, ranked second in the state, wound up its regular season with a 78-59 victory over Lebanon, despite a 31-point performance by Lebanon’s Rick Mount. Mike Nolan led Howe with 27.

Bainbridge Captures Second Place In 'Big Four' With Win Over Wells

Bainbridge captured undisputed second place in the Big Four Conference race last night by socking Granville Wells on the latters floor, 74-70. The Pointers finished unbeaten except for Fillmore and Cloverdale with a 18-2 record while the Wells crew finished up with a 15-4 record. It was a tight ball game all the way with the Pointers trailing by one the first quarter, 19-18, and by four at the close of the half, 38-34. The balanced scoring attack of the Pointers caught fire in the early minutes of the third period and the tide of the game turned as the Putnam County Champs tossed in 25 points

compared to Wells 16. The Pointers went on to out score and out-rebound their opponents in the fourth quarter to capture the victory. Bainbridge banged a .409 percentage from the field with 27 of 66 shots (/ slightly below their average, and Wells connected on an even better .472 percentage with 25 of 53 shots. Rebounds went to the Pointers with 33 as Wells captured 23. Steele snatched 11 to lead the pack. Steele also led the scoring attack with 15 points while Judy and Rossok dumped in 14 and 10 points. Russell led the shooting for the Wells team with 25 points.

Russellville Bees Sting Cory In 61-51 Game

Russellville’s Bees stung Cory last night in their final for the regular season by out-shooting their guest in the final half of action and claiming a 61-51 victory. The Bees claimed a 9-6 low scoring first period lead, but Cory came back in the second stanza and tied the game at 23-all at half time intermission. Russellville poured the coal on in the third and fourth periods and out-scored their opponents and claimed their eighth win of the season.

Richardson supplied the field goals with 13 for Russellville plus three free throws for a total 29 points while Simpson and Whitely added 11 and 8 points. Knust did it for Cory with 17 points as teammate Clifton added 14 points. Conference Tops Almost A Repeat INDIANAPOLIS UPI—Four major Indiana high school conference basketball champions repeated this season, almost final statistics showed today, and one more may join the list tonight. The repeaters were Garrett in the Northeastern Conference, Evansville Harrison in the Southern, Gary Froebel, which had to share the Northwest Conference crowm with Valparaiso, and Michigan City in the Northern. South Bend Central, which tied Michigan City for the Northern Crowm last year, can do it again by beating Elkhart in its regular season windup tonight Three of the conference races went right down to the ware. Evansville Harrison and Marion of the North Central Conference did not clinch their titles until the last Friday night of the regular season, the same time that Michigan City assured itself of at least a tie for the Northern Conference Crowm.
