Roachdale Wins First Place Rating Roaehdal* Music events received three First Division ratines and two Second Division ratings in the Piano and Vocal section of the District Solo and Ensemble Contest held at DePauw University last Saturday. The contest was sponsored by the Indiana School Music Assoc. Events entered in Group I that received a First Division are eligible to compete in the State Contest at Butler University Feb. 19. Roachdale results are as follows: GROUP I First Division — Girl’s vocal ensemble — Lou Howard, Joann Nelson, Lynn Hostetter, Sara Britton, Barbara Wilson, Charlotte Riggle. GROUP HI* Second Division — Beth Ludlow, Piano Solo. GROUP IV First Division — Girl’s Trio, Beverly Hirt, Terry Stafford, Sara Britton. GROUP V First Division—Janet Crosby, Piano Solo. Second Division — Beverly Hirt, vocal Solo.
Rites Held For Lucy Seheuer Funeral services for Mrs. Lucy M. Scheirer, mother of Mrs. Mary Zieg of Greencastle, who died Friday at Frankfort, were held Sunday afternoon at 9 o’clock from the Goodwin Funeral Home. The Rev. D. E. Littler officiated, with burial at FVankfort. *ft». Scheirer, age 82 years, passed away at the Bisel Nursing Homs, following a two years lUnees. She wen born in Clinton County, Ind., May 18, 1888, the daughter of Marian A. and Lenera Douglas Carter. She was married to ‘ntomas F. Scheirer in Sept. 1900. He preceded her to death. Dee. 8, 1M7. She was a member of the United Brethem Church of FVankfort, active to Farm Bureau to Washington Township, GHnfeon County, and was also a member of the Washington Township Home Beonomion Club, of Clinton County. She wan born and raised and spent an of her life to Clinton County. She moved to FVankfort when Mr. Scheirer retired from farming. Surviving are one son, Wilbur C. Scheirer of FVankfort three daughters, Mrs. Mary Zi«g, Greencastle, Mbs. Helen Beaver, Brookville, and Mrs. Esther Beard of Rossville, one sister, Mrs. Ruth Kramer, FVankfort, and one brother. Dr. Nicholas Carter of South Bend.

Wendell Shirley Funeral Tuesday Funeral services for Wendell Shirley, 66 years old, R. R. 2, Danville, a member of the Hendricks County Council will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Weaver Funeral Home in COatesville. Burial will be in the Amo Cemetery. Mr. Shirley died Saturday In the Putnam County Hospital. He attended Indiana and Purdue universities and had served as Clay Township Trustee for two terms and as a member of the Hendricks County Welfare Board. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Elnora Shirley, R. R. 2, Danville, and twe sisters.

Mrs. Tucker Gray will be assistant hostess. Clarence Meek and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Meek and family of Westphalia, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Walter D. Lear. The Fillmore Rebekah Lodge No. 652 will meet Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. All members of the degree staff please be present for practice. The meeting of the Third Wednesday Club which was to have been held with Norma Payne has been postponed. The next meeting date will be announced later. The American Legion Auxiliary will meet at the Legion Home at 7 p.m. to go to the Putnam County Home for a Valentine party for the patients. At 8 p.m., the Auxilliary will hold its stated meeting at the Legion Home. The Putnam County Unit of the American Cancer Society will meet Tuesday evening, Feb. 15, at the DePauw Union Building. Executive Committee at 7 o’clock, Unit meeting at 7:30. All interested persons are cordially invited to the Unit meeting.

Bln. Htaete Hostess TO Golden Circle Club The Manhattan Golden Circle Club held its first meeting of the year Jan. 27 at the home of their new president, Mrs. Etta Hinote. The meeting opened by singing the club song and devotions were read by Mrs. Edith Altman. The Lord’s Prayer was repeated and roll call was answered. Secretary’s report was given by Mrs. Lelia Fellows and Mrs. Bessie Fellows gave the final treasurer’s report for the year 1965. Old and new business was discussed and dues were collected for the new year. Flower fund was collected for the month. A thank you card was received from the family of Mrs. Christine Mattie McKinney. Mrs. McKinney was the sister of Mrs. Geneva Bartley. A getwell card was sent to Mr. Joe Sanders at Community Hospital in Indianapolis. Mr. Sanders is the father of Mrs. Bessie Fellows. The meeting closed by repeating Club Creed and closing ode. There were eleven members present and Nancy and Joetta Amers were guests. Games were played with Coverall prize being won by Mrs. Anna Hall. Delicious refreshments were served and the lucky napkin prize was won by Mrs. Ruth Nelson. > The next meeting will be with Mrs. Patricia Hutcheson Feb. 24, which will be an afternoon meeting.

Club Meets With Mrs. Olma Clodfelter The Clinton-Madison Friendly Club met Thursday afternoon, Feb. 10, with Mrs. Olma Clodfelter. Lucille Hutcheson opened the meeting and all joined in singing “The Star Spangled Banner.” The flag salute and club collect were repeated in unison, led by Ona Sigler. Roll call was taken. The minutes of our last meeting were read and approved. Reports on sick members and their families was given. A very interesting talk on “Special Days in February” was given by Maude O’Haver. Penny collection was taken up. The meeting was closed with the club prayer. Two contests were enjoyed, one being won by Ethel Frazier, the other by Lucille Hutcheson. Delicious refreshments were served by our hostess to 11 members and Master Jeffrey Frazier. Next meeting will be with Helen Martin, March 10.
Mrs. Ronald Dorsett Is Hostess To Club The Jefferson Township Home Demonstration Club met February 10, at the home of Mrs. Ronald Dorsett. Mrs. Everett Sheppard called the meeting to order and all repeated the flag salute and club creed. The door prize was won by Mrs. Wayne Sinclair. The song of the month, “Just a Wearyin’ for You,” was sung after a history of it was given by Mrs. Emil Snyder. Secretary and treasurer reports were read by Mrs. Doris Salsman and Mrs. Howard Keller. Mrs. Vemie Chastain gave an outlook lesson and Mrs. Emil Snyder gave a timely garden tip. An interesting citizenship report was given by Mrs. CharUe Wise. The lesson on meat cookery was presented by Mrs. Robert Frye and Mrs. Richard Chastain. They led a discussion on meat cuts, meat prices and different ways to prepare meats. Everyone enjoyed the delicious luncheon served by the hostess, Mrs. Dorsett, In which she used two tasty meat dishes prepared by the lesson leaders. There were thirteen members and four children present. Mrs. Charlie Wise received the surprise package.
ddb Meets la Roachdale Hotel The Woman’s Progress Club of Roachdale met Wed. in the hotel for a noon luncheon. The hostesses were Mrs. Arthella Higgins and Mrs. Evelyn Beck. There were 13 members and two guests present. After the luncheon the members and guests enjoyed a program with Indiana sesQuicentennial as the theme. Flag salute was led by Mrs. Evelyn Beck. Roll was called and members responded by telling how Indiana had influenced their lives, also naming the shut-ins to whom valentines were sent. Mrs. Lillie McFerran gave a most interesting book review of Irving Stone’s “Love is Eternal.” After a social hour, all departed feeling it is good tc> live in Indiana.

Mrs. Wilson Hostess To Roachdale Club The Roachdale Home Demonstration Club held its February meeting at the home of Mrs. Cully Wilson. The meeting was in charge of the president, Mrs. Dewey Wilson. Mrs. Leslie Brothers gave the devotions. The history of the song of the month, “Just AWearyin’ For You,” was read by Mrs. Sigmond Ablam and sung by the members. Roll call was valentines of long ago. A report of the County Council held at Greencastle was well given by Mrs. Cully Wilson. The lesson on meat cookery was given by Mrs. Dewey Wilson and Mrs. Albert McFerran. They explained the processing of meat and preparing it for the freezer. They also explained how to select the best cuts of meat as to their tenderness and best qualities. They demonstrated several ways of preparing different cuts of-meat for the dinner table which was sampled by the members. Mrs. Wilson assisted by Mrs. Chauncey Sutherlin, served dainty refreshments.
Cynde Lawrence, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lawrence, 901 Hillcrest, is really a Valentine for her parents as she is celebrating her 10th birthday today, February 14.
Betty Rector Hostess To “Club 16” The February meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Betty Rector Wednesday, Feb. 9. Mrs. Jerry Ozment, the president, opened the meeting with the members saluting the Flag and reciting the club creed in unison. The secretary’s report which was read and approved was given by Mrs. Joe Leichty. Mrs. Betty Rector, treasurer, gave the treasurer’s report The history of our song of the month “Just a-Wearyin’ for you” was told by Mrs. Roy Nichols. Mrs. C. J. Huller and Mrs. Gene Cash interested the group with their reports on “Health” and “Outlook.” Meat cookery, our lesson, was presented by Mrs. John Cash and Mrs. Gene Cash. Members and four guests enjoyed sampling the gourmet dishes they, had prepared. Mrs. Gene Cash won the door j prize. The March 9th meeting will neet at 7:30 p.m. with Mrs. Gene Cash.
Another Valentine Girl is Julie Ann Reynolds, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Reynolds of Crawfordsville, who is all of six years old today.
February Meeting Is Held By Club Maple Heights Home Demonstration Club held their February meeting Tuesday at the Club House. The meeting was opened by repeating the club’s creed followed by the Salute to the Flag. Roll call was answered by twelve members and two guests, with a hankie exchange. A report on Health Hints was given by Irene Grubb. The lesson was given on Cuts of Meat and Meat Cookery. All enjoyed a Dutch grab bag. Meeting was closed by all repeating the Club Prayer. Guests were Mrs. Geraldene Scott and Miss Debbie Crawley. Refreshments of ice cream, cake and coffee were served by Mary Ella Hurst and Louise McKamey.
Local Teen-Agers Entertain Little Folks Martha W h t i a k e r, Darla Grimes and Ann Lyon entertained seventeen little folks of pre-school age Saturday afternoon from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the home of Martha Whitaker. Games, prizes and refreshments of a huge valentine cake, ice cream and punch were enjoyed by Cathy Sedlack, Paula Black, Carrie and Katie Hanlon, Doug and Dan Sunkel, George and Cathy Cannon, Lori and Chucky Hill, Cathy Boone, Joan and Jill Greve, Jenifer Meehan, Janey Carlisle, Lori Webb and Patty Lyon. Cloverdale Rites For III. J. Curtis Nathan Junior Curtis, 42, died Friday afternoon at the Lilly Clinic, in General Hospital, where he had been ill for several weeks. He was bom November 11, 1923, the son of Nathan and Imogene Salsman Curtis. He was married January 14, 1944 to Imogene Tincher, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Steven, stationed at an Air Force Base in Michigan: Stanley, Plainfield; one daughter, Shirley, at home; one grandson and his parents, who reside in Coatesville. Mr. Curtis graduated from Fillmore High School. He was a member of the Mount Hebron Baptist Church, was a World War II Veteran, a member of the Hurst-Collins Post No. 287, American Legion, and was employed in Greencastle for many years as a body shop repair man. Funeral services will be held at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Cloverdale on Tuesday at 11:00 A.M., the Rev. Charles Rains will officiate. Interment will be in the Stilesville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home at any time.
