Snow Lays Off Many Workers Last week’s snow storm brought all outdoor work to a standstill and the laid off workers accounted for a large percentage of the unemployment insurance claims filed, Lewis F. Nicolini, director of the Indiana Employment Security Division, said today. He added that in several areas weather conditions may have prevented some people from filing claims. Throughout the state 29,240 claims were filed compared to 27,720 the week before. Mr. Nicolini said the total was 27 per cent below that for the same week a year ago when 40,346 claims were filed. He said that only a few industrial layoffs were reported and that they were small and scattered.

Pocket Subs To Hunt H-Bomb PALOMARES, Spain UPI — Two U. S. pocket submarines were being prepared today to join the massive search for a missing American H-bomb ly ing in about 1,200 feet of water off the southeastern coast of Spain. The 22-foot two-man submarine "Alvin” and the 51-foot underwater research craft "Aluminaut” were being readied at the U. S. Navy’s submarine base at Rota, Spain, for shipment Thursday to the search area about two miles off the coast of the Almeria Province. Usually reliable sources reported that the two pocket subs will be transported here from Rota, near Cadiz on the Atlantic coast, aboard the landing ship “Plymouth Rock” which brought the “Aluminaut” from Miami, Fla., to Spain. The eearch for the nuclear weapon turned to the. sea last week when 400 U. S. airmen failed to locate one of four nuclear devices missing after the mid-air collision Jan, 17 of a Strategic Air Command (SAC) B52 bomber with a KC135 refueling jet over southeast Spain. Three of the unarmed nuclear devices were recovered after the crash which killed seven of the crewmen aboard the two planes. But the fourth bomb was believed lying in the Atlantic in 200 fathoms of water.
