Tips On Pensions And Annuities INDIANAPOLIS—Do you get a pension or an annuity? Pension and annuity payments received by residents of Indiana during 1965 fall Into one of these three classes for Federal income tax purposes: nontaxable, fully taxable, or partly taxable, the Internal Revenue Service said today. Pensions that are tax-free and need not be reported on federal returns, include Social Security payments, Railroad Retirement Act pensions, pensions to veterans, and family benefits and disability retirement pay of military personnel retired on disability resulting from active service. Payments received by a retired employee from a pension plan provided by his employer, without cost to the employee, are fully taxable. If you purchased an annuity, or if you retired under a plan financed jointly by you and your employer, part of the payments received by you will be taxed. The computation of the taxable portion Is based on a formula which permits the recovery of your cost tax-free. If you contributed a part of the cost of your pension or annuity, and will recover your entire cost within three years after retirement, you report nothing as income until you recover your cost. After that, all amounts received are fully taxable. Document No. 8018, which furnishes more detailed information on this subject, may be obtained by writing to the District Director, Internal Revenue Service.

News Of Boys CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. — Marine Private Stephen D. McGuire, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. D. McGuire of Route 2, Greencastle, Ind., has completed individual combat training with the 2nd Infantry Training Regiment at the Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Mother of Quods MOSCOW UPI—The 20-year-old wife of a Russian collective farmer has given birth to quadruplet girls, the news agency Tass announced. Tass said the babies were born at Voshkod, 125 miles southeast of Moscow. The mother is “doing well,” Tass said. It gave no report on the condition of the babies. Two of the girls weighed 3.52 pounds each and the other two 3.6 and 3.3 pounds, Tass said.

Edinburgh Paper Changes Hands EDINBURG UPI — M. L. Whittenberger, formerly manager of the Greenwood Star, has purchased the 91-year-old Edinburg Daily Courier. Whittenberger bought the paper from Mr. and Mrs. Francis A. Otto, who have operated it the past 20 years. The new editor and publisher said he plans no significant changes in the newspaper which began as a weekly in 1875 and has been published as a six-times-a-week daily since 1910. He said he feels strongly that every city of at least 3,500 population should have its own daily newspaper. Edinburg has a population of about 4,700.
