By Frank Puckett, Jr. Banner Sports Editor A highly regarded Terre Haute Garfield team hit the Greencastle Tiger Cubs with, everything but the kitchen sink last night as the Purple Eagles blasted the nets for 35 of 68 field goal attempts for a high .510 shooting percentage to give them a 95-86 victory over the Cubs. Greencastle was 12-1 over-all and 4-0 in the Western Conference race, but the Garfield crew handed them their first defeat in the last thirteen outings. Garfield is now 9-3 overall and 6-0 in the conference. Not only did the somewhat cold Cubs have to deal with the fantastic shooting of the hustling Garfield team, but the Eagles also had five men deep in double figures and a pressing defensive that caught the Greencastle crew holding onto their sneakers. Garfield first hit the Cubs with the press at the 5:00 minute mark of the first period when the Greencastle five held a one-point edge, 8-7. Three minutes and ten points later the Eagles held a 17-14 margin.

Senior guard 6-2 Murawski, who donated 22 points, banged the buckets for eight field goals and two free throws during the first half to pace the Eagles with an 18 point performance and lead his team to a 50-38 half time margin. Garfield hit Greencastle’s high scoring Mike Troyer with every defensive trick they knew as hustling Eagle Williams hawked him the full length of the floor. Although Troyer was double-teamed at every occasion he received the ball, the hot-handed ace managed 27 points. The Cubs came back to threaten Garfield only once during the contest, With 5:09 showing on the clock the score stood 56-43. Nanovsky started it for the Cubs by dropping in a tip. Chadd took the hint and tossed in jumper on the next play. Harmless swiped the ball midcourt from Garfield’s Williams and drew a foul on the play. He dropped in a free throw and the local five was within six, 56-48. Before they could get things rolling the visiting Eagles fired up their hard-hitting press and rolled over the Cubs for a 79-61 third quarter lead. Greencastle experienced a cold fourth quarter by connect-

ing on only 9 of 22 from the field. They hit a combined 29 of 82 shots for a low shooting percentage of .321. The Cubs did manage to hit 28 charity stripe attempts out of 41 tries, while Garfield connected on 25 of SO for a fantastic .835 percentage from the line. Pacing the scoring for the Cubs were Troyer and Chadd with 27 and 15 points while teammate Nanovsky tossed in 14 points. Murawski dropped in 22 points for the Eagles as teammates Waddle, Hathaway, Fouchton, and Cleghorn hit for 13, 16, 14, and 11 points respectively. i Summaries:

Jones 2 6 2 Troyer 11 5 3 Hammomnd 0 0 0 Norris 0 0 0 The reserve game went into an overtime with the Garfield

crew finally emerging with a 70-68 victory. It was the first time the Purple Eagles reserves have been threatened this year. They hold an undefeated 12-0 record.

May Delay Announcement MONTE CARLO UPI—The winner of the 1966 Monte Carlo Auto Rally may not be officially confirmed for several months. The organizing body, the Monte Carlo Automobile Club, Friday turned down the appeal by British BMC and Ford drivers against their disqualification on grounds of illegal equipment after they had taken the first four places in the race. But the drivers then appealed to the International Automobile Federation and this protest could take months to clear. The British are not contesting that their cars infringed the rules. They are protesting the method of the disqualifications. Why, they asked, are they allowed to run at all when cars were supposed to be inspected before the rally ? If the fault was not found then, why were they allowed to contest the final night drive through the mountains only to be ousted immediately afterwards, after suspicions had been voiced by the organizers ?

Jack Hogan and Morgan Everson led DePauw scoring with 19 and 16 points, respectively. Fred Broda canned 18 for the host team.
