Tsmagsr's View By Janet Steals Ah he, ell you people who put your Mistletoe and Kissing Bells away after the Christmas season, now you can leave them up all the time. Although kiss* ing under the mistletoe is associated completely with the Christmas season, there is no reason why it should be, except for the power that custom can bestow. In a Scandinavian myth, Baldur the beautiful, god of light and spring, was troubled by dreams that his life was in danger. His mother, Frigga, goddess of love, traveled ever the world asking everything from earth, air, fire, and water to promise not to hurt her son. However, she did not ask the mistletoe, a parasitic plant which attaches itself to trees and therefore does not grow from any of the four elements. Loki. god of fire, was jealous of Baldur, and finally had him slain with a dart of mistletoe. The tears of Baldurs mother became the white berries of the plant, and she decreed that mistletoe would never again be used as a weapon, and that she would place a kiss on anyone who passed under it. Possibly the timing of Christ-mas-kissing comes from an old legend that at the end of a year, if a girl receives no kisses under the mistletoe, she will not marry in the new year. A berry should be removed with each kiss, and when all are gona the bough has lost its power. With or without mistletoe I would like to wish everybody a

"•Architect very satisfactorily, and if no undetermined problems arise, the school should be under construction by mid summer. The school will be built for grades 9-12 with the Junior High remaining at Reelsville and Fillmore. The new school will adequately accommodate 1 students in the district with expansion possibilities being included in the plans. It is the desire of the school board and the superintendent to build a school which will be able to offer an outstanding curriculum which wdll compare with the best schools in the state. Building material that is selected will be considered for its durability, maintenance requirements, and appearance. The board is of the opinion that it is cheaper to build a school with adequate space and areas included at the time of construction rather than anticipating the adding of areas at a later date. Construction cost as w r ell as other expenses are continually increasing each year, so by planning a building that wdll meet all expected needs now and in the near future wdll be cheaper in the long run. Cost of construction has increased considerably in the last three years and this trend is expected to continue. After building plans have been formulated and financing established, local meetings wdll be held by the Superintendent to explain the progress that is being made.

The Bell Will Toll For Bridge Players By Alfred Sheinwold This would be a noisy world to live in if a bell rang every time we made a mistake. Most of us would have to wear earmuffs permanently, especially at the bridge table. For example. the bell would toll in the hand shown today. West won with the nine of diamonds and led the eight of hearts through dummy. Declarer put up dummy's ten and won with the queen when East played the jack. South continued with the ace of diamonds and a low diamond, losing again to West. Back came another heart, and East took two heart tricks to defeat the contract. Did you hear the bell ring? Who made the mistake—and when? EARLY MISTAKE The bell rang for South when
he played the ace of clubs at the first trick. The correct play is to let East win the first
trick.
East returns a diamond, and South puts up the ace and cashes the aoe of clubs to discard a diamond from dummy. Then South gives up a diamond.
