2 Th# Daily Banner, Graaneastla, Indiana Friday, Nevambar 12, 1965 Rhodesia Declared In Act Of Treasonable Rebellion

LONDON UPI — Prime Minister Harold Wilson Thursday declared Rhodesia in active and treasonable rebellion against the British crown. He told a packed and tense House of Commons that British aid to the former African colony will cease and insurgent Rhodesia will be removed from the sterling area, crippling its Commonwealth trade. Wilson said force would not be used “unless, of course, our troops are asked for to preserve law and order and to avert tragic subversion or murder.” Britain would have no dealings with the rebel regime of Premier Ian Smith, he said. The British high commission in

Salisbury was being withdrawn and Rhodesia's high commissioner in London had been asked to leave. The high commissioner. Brig. Andrew Skeen, was given 48 hours to get out of Britain. The Socialist prime minister, who went down to the line with Smith in trying to avoid the first breakaway of a colony since the American Revolution of 1776, spelled out the consequences of Rhodesia's defiance of Queen Elizabeth and her government. Rhodesia will not be allowed access to the London capital market and Britain's export guarantees department will not extend further credit to Rhodesia, he said.
