DEBUNKS COLUMBUS — This is the map which turned up in 1957 and has since been studied by specialists and scientists at Yale University who say it proves Lief Ericsson (right), the Norseman, and not Christopher Columbus (left) discovered America. The map was drawn about 1440, half a century before Columbus' voyage. The New World appears as an Island at left, with Greenland on its right. Europe is in the middle, with Africa below and Asia at right.

More Refugee Cubans Arrive KEY WEST, Fla UPI — Cuban refugees impatient to leave their homeland faced a rough boat ride in the Florida Straits today over a "freedom trail” ' already blazed by a mounting number of their countrymen. Three boats brought 73 exiles to freedom Thursday despite the stormy weather. A Coast Guard cutter had to take aboard the passengers from one small boat for the last few' miles. A fourth boat, the 19-foot twin outboard Topeca, arrived early today carrying 11 refugees and the crewmen who went to Cuba to get them. The weather bureau said there was little hope of a letup today in the heavy rains, winds that gusted to 45 miles an hour at times Thursday and 10-foot

seas.

The Coast Guard reported it knew of no additional small craft en route from the embarkation port at Camarioca on Cuba's north coast. Carl Warner, a UPI reporter in Camarioca, said however, that more than a score of small boats had arrived to pick up refugees and were waiting to leave. Thursday’s crossing brought to 268 the number of refugees who have taken up Fidel Castro on his offer of letting Cubans j leave if they no longer W'ant to live under his regime. The figures do not include the 48 crewmen, most all of them Cuban exiles who made the trips to

get them.

Estimates of the number of Cubans who might initially leave their country if a formal transfer is negotiated by the U.S. and Cuban governments have ranged up to 42,500 and could go several times as high if Cubans are included who are not relatives of those already in

this country.

Since Castro took over, the State Department estimates some 350,000 Cubans have sought permission to come to

this country.
