CAN T SEE HIM ANYMORE—Mrs. Victor Thorne, 44, Troy, Mich., leans over to kiss her mentally retarded son Richard, 13, goodbye in Miami, Fla., following a judge's decision that the boy be placed in a special school there. to one brief visit each from Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey and Secretary of State Dean Rusk. Johnson's doctors and family could not be more pleased. This normal pattern of high-gear activity during most of his waking hours has been broken in favor of a sleepy, routine hospital existence quite normal for a surgery patient. The seclusion of his third fl"or suite at Bethesda Naval Hospital is an ideal barrier to less-than-vital communications from other members of the government. No cabinet officer worth his portfolio would dare call the hospital these days without a most urgent reason. Furthermore, the departments and agencies are not pressing with their customary vigor to have the Chief Executive survey their latest reports. The reduction of official pressures is welcome to Johnson in more ways than one. He had a backlog of fatigue when he entered the hospital. Once he relaxed at Bethesda. even in the discomfort of post-surgery convalescence, he found that he liked the opportunity to rest
completely. It was not until he was forced into bed rest at Bethesda that he realized how much he needed it.
