Vietnamese Vets To Get Treatment WASHINGTON UPI —President Johnson has ordered an Air Force plane sent to Viet Nam to bring to this country for treatment and training 60 paraplegic Vietnamese soldiers who otherwise might die for a lack of medical care. The President’s action was announced at the White House —with Johnson present—by Dr. Howard Rusk, director of the institute of physical medicine and rehabilitation at New York University. Rusk spoke highly about the morale and determination of U.S. troops he saw recently In Viet Nam and of the Vietnamese peoples themselves, particularly students. He said the war obviously had created health problems. If only for the 600,000 refugees who now exist But Rusk spoke particularly about the 60 Vietnamese paraplegics he had seen In one medical center where he said they were "doomed to rot to death’’ under present conditions.

In return for his plea of guilty to the charge of malingering, the Army promised Belton a sentence not to exceed one year in prison, a bad conduct discharge and loss of pay. The entire sentence is to be suspended. An Army spokes1 man said Belton can be honorably discharged without a blot on his service record if he successfully completes the remain- ! ing months of his two-year hitch. The spokesman said the sentence will be reduced by Lt. Gen. Robert H. Colglazier Jr., commanding general of the 4th Army. It was Colglazier who , made the deal with Belton. The spokesman hinted that Belton can expect re-assignment to , Viet Nam as soon as Colglazier 1 acts.

Sniper Wounds R.R. Engineer PALMDALE. Calif. UPI — A sniper seriously wounded the engineer of a freight train last night at a crossing three miles south of here. The fireman toed* control of the train and avoided aa accident, investigators said. Los Angeles county sheriffs detectives said the engineer. Joe Meeks, 53, of Bakersfield, Calif., was hit in the chest by a bullet apparently fired from a hill some distance from the train. He was hospitalised In serious condition. Detectives said they were not certain whether Meeks was the target of the sniper or if the gunman was merely shooting at the train.

Bitter Fighting KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia' UPI —Bitter fighting was reported in central Java today between Indonesian rebels and army troops loyal to President Sukarno, Radio Malaysia said there were heavy casualties on

both sides.

Reports of the fightmg reached here as Radio Jakarta announced that Indonesia air force commander Omar Dani had issuel an ultimatum giving anti-Sukarno elements in the air force 72 hours to surrender.

More U.S. Units Reach Viet Nam SAIGON UPI —U. S. military strength in Viet Nam reached a new high of 140.000 men today when the final elements of the 1st Infantry Division came ashore at Vung Tau, 37 miles

southeast of Saigon.

A U. S. military' spokesman said the 15.000-man “Big Red One” division would join the division-size Marine Corps Third Amphibious Force and the Army’s 1st Cavalry Division as the major U. S. fight-

ing forces in Viet Nam.

About 4.000 troops of the 1st Infantry have been in Viet Nam for some time and have seen combat against the Viet Cong. The remainder of the division completed the move from Ft. Riley, Kan., today and the division headquarters flag was planted on South Vietnamese

soil for the first time.

hart County Wednesday raised the 1965 Indiana traffic toll to at least 1,095 compared with 1,007 a year ago. Ronald E. Wiseman. 18. near Warsaw, was burned to death when the truck he was driving burst into flames after rolling over twice and hurtling down an embankment on U. S. 6 about five miles east of Nappanee. Authorities said the crash apparently was caused when the drive shaft dropped out of the vehicle and the wheels locked. They said the truck then hurled over the embankment and rolled over. Police said Wiseman's father, Henry, had to be rushed to Elkhart Hospital in a state of shock. They said the elder Wiseman was driving in the family auto right behind the truck when the accident occurred.

Georgia Racial Situation Tense CRAWFORDVILLE, Ga — UPI—Gov. Carl Sander* failed Wednesday to win a truce tn racial demonstrations in this tense northeastern Georgia town. Both Negroes and the Ku Klux Klan threatened action. The governor held two long conferences in Atlanta Wednesday, the first with white officials of the community, the second with leaders of Negro demonstrators. Aeknoledg-; ing failure. Sanders said. "This Is something they are going to have to take up locally and set- ; tie.” Sanders asked the Negroes to call off their demonstrations at least until after a three-judge federal panel at Augusta.
