Robert McClarren. Indiana State Librarian, will be the guest speaker at the annual meeting of The Friends of the Greencastle-Putnam County Library on Monday, October 11th. The meeting will be held at the Charterhouse in Greencastle at 7:30 p.m. Mr. McClarren wall speak on the aims and purposes of the Indiana State Library, and what It ha? to offer the general pub-

Mr. McClarren received his B. A. degree in Biology and Economics from Muskingum College, Ohio and his H. A. in English from Ohio State University. He served in the U.S. Army as registration officer to the Veteran’s Administration and again later as Communications officer in Korea. His library career began in Ihe New York Public Library in 1953 where he received the M. S. award in Library' Science. From this point he rapidly progressed to become Librarian at Crawfordsville Public Library and then Librarian of the Huntington (West Va.) Library. This latter position he held until he was appointed to the position of Indiana State Librarian in 1962. Mr. McClarren is a member of the American Library Association. The Indiana Library Association, Rotary Clubs in both Crawfordsville and Huntington, and several historical societies including the Indiana Historical Society. He places particular emphasis on the study of electric railways but is also interested in family genealogy and the Potawatami Indians of Ohio. One of his favorite entertainments is modem jazz. Mr. McClarren and his wife. Maret. have two sons. Mark. 13. and Todd. 10. All members of The Friends of the Library are urged to attend this annual meeting and to bring all interested friends.
