James Cash Jenney will observe his 90th birthday on Thursday, Sept. 16, and the “party” will be anything but small and intimate. More than 56,000 associates in the nearly 1,700 Penney department stores throughout the country will participate in observances of Mr. Penney's birthday. Manager Cloyd Moss said that each Penney store including the one here will have an appropriately decorated cake. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Scobee visited his brother, Orville, at the Morgan County Hospital at Martinsville, Indiana, last Friday. He has been a patient in the hospital since August 29th, but is now improving slowly. Funeral services for S/Sgt. Jimmie Sawyer, former resident of this city, were held Monday at the Weaver Funeral Home in Clayton. He was the son of Mrs. Lettie Sawyer, Orlando, Fla. He died in Germany where he was stationed with the U. S.

Fatal Seizure VALPARAISO UPI — A 12-year-old boy died of an apparent heart attack during a school physical education program today. Authorities said Jeff Smith, son of the Robert Smiths, collapsed during outdoor exercises at Thomas Jefferson Junior High School. He was pronounced dead at Porter Memorial Hospital.
