S Th« Dally Bannar, Braaneaafla, imllaM Friday, Saptambar 3,1965 Editorial-Wise Burn Those Lights With the Labor Day weekend at hand, a little reminder of common highway safety and courtesy is more than appropriate. State as well as local authorities are stressing the use of low beam headlights during daylight hours as well as the many other aspects of highway safety. The official Labor Day holiday begins at 6 p.m. today and continues through midnight Monday, September 6. Be a safe driver and obey traffic laws so that you may live to see another Indiana holiday weekend! Our Pride Gets A Boost Usually at this same time every year, the pride of the Putnam County citizens gets a real boost as the results of the State Fair competition start rolling in. Time and time again, we hear of County youths grasping high honors in just about every category of competition at the State Fair. Naturally, the larger number of awards are brought back by the youth. This only stands to reason because of the much larger number of youth participating in the events. The youngsters and adults that represent themselves and Putnam County in the local competition and State wide events are a real credit to the remainder of the county. We think that everyone will join The Banner and salute the 4-H'ers, youth and adults that are representing our county at the State Fair.

MacArthur, carrying a bottle of scotch in his jacket pocket and flanked by two sheriff’s deputies, placed the gem in a bank vault and said: “I bribed some S.O.B. to get it back.” The brilliant gem was recovered from a ledge in a public telephone booth alongside a busy expressway where it was left like a worthless pebble. It was taken to jewel expert Joseph Segal for identification. “My God, what a stone,” he said. “It has to be the DeLong

ANSWER: Bid two notrump.
Your partner’s two-bid is forcing to game, and yo*i should respect it. You will probably take a licking on this hand, but you will keep your partner’s confidence. (If you’re already sure of your partner’s confidence, nobody could scold you
very much for passing.

No one in the Labor Department believes that the “last hired, first fired” rule has faded for unskilled Negro workers. The department said, however, that while the job situation for Negroes and other nonwhites is still markedly worse than for whites, the continued pressures of economic expansion have made significant inroads on the problem. During the first eight months of 1965, the non-white unemployment rate averaged 8.5 per cent, down by 1.4 per cent from the same period last year.
