WASHINGTON UPI— School bells will ring; in more than a new academic yaar this fall. Innovations *alora fijrura In many programs scheduled by schools large and small nationwide. For example, SO per cent of each Glen High School student's time will be unassigned. The school in Hancock County, W. Va.. doesn’t aim to give the students the time for frittering. Rather, the time will be used
for self-assigned, faculty-ap-proved individual projects. Out of this program it is hoped the student will learn to use his time well to think and to work independently. In Euclid. Ohio, there’s "project English’’ — teaching students at Euclid Central Junior High to read interpretively, to think rather than memorize, and to write until they get writer’s cramp. The list of schools giving various educational Innovations
a whirl Is almost as long as a list of all the schools, reports the National Education Association (NEA). "In some the winds of change blow faster than in most others,’’ the NEA said, “and in some there’s scarcely a breeze, but receptiveness is the rule of the day, and when the untried new is tested and found worthy, the once reluctant are ready to applaud.” Take team-teaching. The NEA estimates that three out of
] 10 school districts will have team teaching programs during the 1965-66 school year. In less than a decade this innovation has become a major method of improving the quality of education in school systems everywhere. The idea behind team-teach-ing: combine the efforts of teachers of different abilities and interests into a unit making the best use of each particular talent.

GOP Not Dead Says Kaowlaad BROWNSTOWN, Ind. UPI— Former Republican U. S. Senator William Knowiand of California told the Southern Indiana Republican Barbecue Sunday there were more factors uniting Republicans than dividing them.
He said the simple fact more than 26 million Americans voted for the Goldw'ater - Miller ticket in 1964 show'ed the Republican party was anything but dead. "There is no need for defeatism among Republicans,” he
added.
"This vote of over 26 million was polled despite the difficulties growing out of the tragic and shocking events of November 23, 1963. with the assassination of President Kennedy and the assumption of office of President Johnson. Many people had the reaction, ’Let's give the new President a chance to prove himself.’ Knowiand said Republicans are "a dedicated people who believe in the American system of checks and balances between the three great co-equal branches of the federal government.” They also realize "that if we are to save this system we must greatly increase our membership in the U.
