Woman Succeeds In Second Attempt WARSAW UPI — A Warsaw woman committed suicide Tuesday by standing in front of a freight train, 14 years after her leg was severed by a train’s wheels in an unsuccessful attempt to kill herself. Local authorities said Mrs. Virginia Phillips, 47, was killed when struck by a Pennsylvania Railroad freight train at the west edge of Warsaw. Officials said die stood on the tracks as the train approached. Fourteen years ago Mrs. Phillips lost a leg when she made a similar suicide attempt by throwing herself in front of a train, according to reports. She had walked with crutches smoe. Officials said Mrs. Phillips had been under mental care recently at the Norman Beatty Memorial Hospital and Logansport State Hospital.
Mrs. Raymond Tattle, a native of Manchester, England, received word of the death of her father in Manchester. She wanted to go to the funeral but the state of the family finances prevented her from booking passage on a flight to London at a cost of more than $500. Friends, neighbors and a min- > ister quickly came to her aid. A neighbor donated $100. Another New Harmony resident, also a native of England, contributed another $100. A house-by-house solicitation raised $114, and within three hours I Mrs. Little had $525, thanks to I additional contributions by civic and fraternal organizations and churches of the community. That night, she boarded a plane for England and attended her father's funeral.
Trip Financed By Neighbors NEW HARMONY UPI — New Harmony, nationally-fa-mous site of two experiments in communal living to the 19th century, had a demonstration of contemporary friendliness taet week when a death message came to one of its residents.
