Mafia Leaders To Wage Fight PALERMO, Italy UPI — Authorities here prepared today for a legal battle royal with 10 alleged Mafia leaders arrested here in a crackdown on what police described as an international drug ring. The arrested men, Including Frank (Three Fingers) Coppola and Giuseppe Genco Russo, were reported hiring crack lawyers and preparing for an allout fight. Police say the prisoners were kingpins of an international gang which used Italy as the base for a brisk trade in narcotics shipped from the Middle East to the United States. “You could call this a narcotics crackdown rather than a crackdown on the Maffia.” one police official told the press. The ring is believed to have sent cocaine to America hidden in shipments of canned tomatoes. A quantity of the drug was once found in a shipment of oranges. Police said one of Coppola's friends. Rosario Mancino, is believed to have played a key role in the operation. Mancino owns a factory that exports canned food to the United States.

Will Test Fire Moon Rocket HUNTSVILLE, Ala. UPI— The first stage of America's Saturn-5 moon rocket was set for a 2 1 2 -minute test firing today to demonstrate for the first time the blast it will need to boost a 45-ton spaceship into the sky. The fine engines on the 13story booster, firmly anchored to a test stand for the ground firing, were scheduled to roar into life at 3 p.m. CST. It will be an important step in the development of the 7)amillion pound thrust space machine and will climax a series of shorter firings that started April 16 with a 6 ^4-second run. The Saturn-5, the world’s mightiest rocket, is five times as powerful as the Da-million pound thrust Saturn-1 that completed its 10-shot test program last Friday. For today’s test, engineers planned to load the 138-foot tall first stage with 2,200 tons of kerosene and liquid oxygen. Its five engines were expected to consume the fuel at the rate of 15 tons a second. The 33-foot diameter test vehicle is a near duplicate of

flight models, but will be used for ground tests only. It is rigged with instruments to make hundreds of Important measurements during the test

LBJ Cheered By Profits Reports WASHINGTON UPI — President Johnson, cheered by reports of record business profits, believes the nation’s economy is growing increasingly stronger. A White House spokesman described the President’s feelings Wednesday after the Chief Executive received reports on business conditions from Treasury Secretary Henry H. Fowler and the council of economic advisers. The President was said to be

especially pleased that momentum of the economy’s recent expansion had continued through July. The spokesman said the economic advisers told Johnson the outlook for the third quarter of this year is good.
