These Are Your Questions
CAN it be definitely established that a particular person li the father of a child? The question of paternity •annot always be definitely derided by the study of the major Hood groups. Every child Is born with a Mood group that is inherited from one of the parents. There ora four main blood groups, but there are many sab* groups that may be of some value to establishing patern-
ity.
Two famous Mood specialists, Dr. Karl Landon! Dr. Alexaador , discovered blood subgroups which they call M and IT. These sub-groups have been used in cases of questionable paternity. The child’s M and N sub-groups can sometimes show whether or not a wrtiiln person can be the real father. Not all the states have legally accepted blood grouping as a definite Indication of paternity. The Mood groups may suggest the possibility o? paternity without being absolutely posi-
tive.

teeth?
Yearly examination of the chest or the teeth by X-ray does not present any hazard of
overexposure.
Patients’ concern about X-ray exposure is highly exaggerated. Physicians and dentists use
very small doees of X-rays for undertake to answer individual their pictures i letters, he win use readers? What changes actually take place in blood vessels affected
by arteriosclerosis?
Arteries are lined by
strong but elastic tissues. This allows the normal healthy blood vessel to expand as the heart
pumps blood through it.
Deposits of calcium and firm, rigid bands of tissue replace the Mastic lining of the arteries when arteriosclerosis develops. When the blood vessel becomes rigid and narrow less blood ia brought to the heart, kidneys, brain and legs, the areas most affected by arterio-
sclerotic changes.
Some of the causes of arteriosclerosis are known, others are suspected. Still more are completely unknown. Diets with high cholesterol and fats, advancing years, tobacco and heredity are only a few of the causes of the changes in the blood vessels. It ia still completely unexplained why some blood vessels in the body develop arteriosclerosis while
others do not.
When blood vessels are narrowed by these changes, nature has a trick of its own to compensate for it. Smaller blood vessels normally surround the large ones that are affected by disease. These tiny vessels become enlarged and take over some of the job of transporting blood. This is called collateral, or additional, circulation. This collateral circulation accounts for the complete recovery of so many people who have suffered brain strokes or heart attacks, and again ara able to resume normal activity.
