White Crosses On State Roads INDIANAPOLIS UPI—State Police Supt. Robert O'Neal announced Monday white crosses were being placed along Indiana's highways where traffic fatalities occur. O'Neal said the markers, wooden and three feet high, would serve as a reminder to

motorists of the danger in« driving and also as a memorial to those motorists killed in accidents. “When our troopers cover a fatal accident, they are to mark the spot where the crosses go — one, two. three or whatever the number killed were,” O'Neal

said.

The superintendent went on to say the crosses are but a part of the total safety program dedicated to trying to save lives on the highways. The state police will continue ' to use such techniques as unmanned patrol cars parked along the road in an effort to keep motorists alert.
