Broadcasting networks have to keep newsmen in their studios to provide commentary if the President is a few minutes late in arriving or if there is time to be filled on the air when the session ends. Thus, frequently, the number of reporters actually attending a televised Johnson news conference — while much larger than the total of his unanounced meetings — is lower than it would be if it were announced in advance but kept off

the air.

supply to the homemaker, today department stores and building supply houses feature lighting fixtures. Rosen says that lighting fixtures have become “home fashions.” This year, he said, there is a Spanish look in style for interior decoration, and it had its influence on lines of new fixtures; but next year there may be another. And there are even lines designed to fit particular regions of the country; of course, there are styles made to go with the particular period furniture with which a home may be fitted. Progress manufacturing had sales of more than $40 million for the last calendar year; Rosen expects sales this year may top last by as much as 15 per cent. For the total industry, sales of all lighting equipment, including residential, totaled about $750 million; progress itself shows 700 fixtures in a current residential catalogue.
