Contempt Case Up To McNevin NOBLESVILLE UPI — A former deputy state attorney general was to announce today whether he had decided to preside at a hearing on a criminal Contempt of court citation against a local newspaper editor. Robert McNevin, an attorney In Indianapolis, was picked Wednesday from a three-man panel named by Hamilton Circuit Judge Edward New, Jr. who issued the contempt citaiion Monday against James T. jKeal, editor of the Noblesville paily Ledger. New issued the citation because of a column in which Neal criticized plans for a crackdown on traffic violators. - McNevin was chosen just two pours before the scheduled start ©f a hearing on the contempt charge which carries a possible penalty of 90 days in jail and a ?500 fine. * He sent word that he could hot be in Noblesville before today. He later added that he was not sure whether he wanted ■to take the case but would announce his decision today at a tonference with Prosecutor M r alter Cornell and Neal's attorney. “I want to sleep on it,’' he Baid late Wednesday. If McNevin declines the assignment, a three-man panel must be named and a new special judge chosen. If ha accepts, a new date will be set for the hearing, ^probably next week. ; The courtroom was crowded for the scheduled hearing Wednesday and the crowd remained nmtil a bailiff announced the hearing had been postponed. Among the spectators were several wearing black armbands. One, who identified himself as John Hall, a Noblesville .businessman, said the bands sig- ” nified that "freedom of the press is dead in Hamilton Coun- : ty and we are mourning it.”

Berlin Barge Traffic Closed BERLIN UPI — The East Germans Wednesday again closed down Berlin barge traffic because of military maneuvers. West Berlin customs police said canal traffic to and from Berlin was halted Wednesday and would be shut down Thursday too. The traffic tras halted twice last week because of East German Army maneuvers which included amphibious operations. West Berlin police Wednesday reported the arrest by East German police of a West Berliner traveling to West Germany. The man, who fled from Blast Germany four years ago, was picked up Tuesday at a highway checkpoint outside Berlin as he left the city on a motor scooter with his wife. His wife was not arrested.

}| Prisoners To Be Pardoned MADRID UPI — The Spanish government is expected to announce general pardons for 11,000 prisoners, including more than 100 political prisoners, informed sources said Wednesday. The sources said the pardons would be granted at the recommendation of the council of \ ministers meeting Wednesday. The sources said newly-ap-pointed minister of justice Antonio Maria Oriol had urged the pardons to commemorate the holy year of Santiago De Compostela.
