A Local Toenagor'sView Janet Staub 'The good ole days” must have really been something. Bread 5c a loaf, most of the states’ population lived on farms and a '.imited supply of reading material. In a few years when the teenagers of today are grandparents, the talk will probably be "the good ole days.” Compared to the “good ole days” now, and <<1 “the good ole days” then most people will probably agree that the “new good ole days” are the best. Back then only cracker jack boxes carried trinkets in them, now every cereal, cracker jack, and soap powder box has a '“wonderful surprise” inside. Food was really cheaper back then but I wonder if it was— enriched, extra vitamins added, or some secret ingredient. Speaking along the food line— the recipes back then are still
good.
Schools may have been fun back then, with all ages in one room, and more days called off because of the weather. Reading. ’ritin, and 'rithmetic was just about all that was taught too! Just think of the poor guy that attended school about 150 years ago, coming into one of the schools of today, what with just the basic subjects being taught he would probably think he was on a different planet. Many things have also been ! done about health. Polio used to attack thousands of people each year, but just think so far only 91 cases have been reported this year. Not all diseases have cures for them now. but continuous research and development of medicine everyone has hope for
help.
“The good oV days” were something to behold, but in a few years we teenagers can start talking about our “good ole days.' DID YOU NOTICE: The Putnam County Fair, and the Greencastle-Fair-on-the- Square coming soon!
