Door Ordered To Louisiana §y United Prest International The Justice Department ! top racial troubleshooter has been ordered to Bogalusa, La., to seek an end to racial strife in the papermill town. White House Press Secretary Bill Moyers said in Washington Thursday that John Dear, head of the Justice Department's civil rights division, would • meet and discuss the solution with all parties. Bogalusa city officials and Negro leaders Wednesday had appealed to President Johnson to intervene in the crisis. Moyers said the President did not want to interfere directly because he considered it a local matter that would have to be solved locally. But he dispatched Doar to lend a hand. About 400 Negroes marched for th« seventh time in eight days at Bogalusa Thursday. Scores of state troopers protected the marchers and occasionally pushed white hecklers back with nightsticks. At Houston, Tex., Thursday, Rice University accepted two Negro undergraduates for next fall. Rice already has a Negro graduate student. The university went to federal court last year and won authority to desegregate despite an indenture against Negro student written in 1891 by William Marsh Rice, who originally endowed the $100 million institution.

Lost By 628 Votes WASHINGTON UPI — The secret is out. Senate Democratic Leader Mike Mansfield missed being nominated aa the Republican vice presidential candidate last year by only 628 votes. That was the number of delegate votes by which Sen. Margaret Chase Smith. R-Maine. lost her bid for the GOP presidential nomination at last year's convention. The secret of the lady senator* vice presidential choice was divulged to a blushing Mansfield Thursday by Sen. George Aiken, R-Vt. Mansfield modestly allowed it had been the only connection he has ever had with a Republican convention.
Begin Review Of War la Viet SAIGON UPI Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara and Ambassador - designate Henry Cabot Lodge today began a full-scale review of the Viet Nam war. The fact-find-ing mission centered on the need for more American combat troops. Authoritative military sources said one subject of the highlevel talks was the possible expansion of military operations into neighboring Laos to seal off the flow of Communist arms and weapons to guerrilla
forces.
McNamara, Lodge and Gen. Earl K. Wheeler, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, arrived here earlier today at the head of a 60-man mission from Washington under extremely heavy security. American soldiers guarded key intersections along t h e i route from the airport to down- i town Saigon, watching for any j terrorist assassination
attempts.
Sentries ringed the U. S. ! Embassy building where McNamara, Lodge and Wheeler held their first in a series of conferences with outgoing Ambassador Maxwell D. Taylor and Gen. William C. Westmoreland, commander of American forces in Viet Nam. Later, the McNamara mission met with Premier Nguyen Cao Ky at his heavily guarded headquarters in another section
of the city.

You let East hold the first trick with the jack of diamonds, but you take the ace when East leads the king. You lead a spade. West plays low, and you must play the jack or king from dummy. Assuming that you cannot see the East or West hands, how would you decide on the correct spade pla„ from dummy? Don't just say, “I would guess.” Think how silly this would seem to a visitor from Arcturus of even Betelgeuse. If you use your brain to capacity you will know the correct spade play without having to guess. It isn’t hard to know the right answer, especially if you have already peeked at the West hand. The important thing is to know the reasoning, so that your brain gets the right kind of exerci Think of East's hand. You know’ that East started with the king-queen-jack of diamonds. You are planning to take a trump finesse through Blast, so you are hoping to find the king of heart* in his hand. Right off the bat you know of 19 points in high cards in the Eart hand. You can even assume that East is likely to have at least the jack of Clubs. If Wert, held clubs headed by the queenjack or queen-jack-ten. he might well have led the queen of clubs Instead of the eight of diamonds. If Bast also held the ace of spades he would have opened the bidding instead of passing. If East does hold the ace of spades, you wall find that Wert has the king of hearts, so that the contract cannot be made. Your best chance is to play Wert for the ace of spades and therefore you play the king of spades from dummy. The rest is easy. As of August 1st, drivers taking driving tests in the state of

ers” sounded.
This will be a great improve-
ment and will probably make promi^e^
the roads and streets of Indiana much safer. But there are some peculiar things about drivers and driving in Indiana. One of which is that Indiana is in the top ten category of having the highest minimum age which a person can obtain an operator's license. Another is that for about the last ten years Indiana has been among the top ten
states for traffic deaths.
Reds Raid
Right now there are over 40,000 people killed annually from automobile accidents. 4,540.000 casualties a year are recorded. The money spent because of these accidents w’ould be enough so that L.B.J. wouldn’t have to create bills to be sure no one in the United States w’ould ever starve or be without the necessities of life. Recent investigations in four major U.S. cities have turned up the fact that 82% of drivers involved in serious accidents that resulted in death for one or more persons have alcohol on their breath or in their blood stream. They must have forgotten the old saying of “if you drive, don't drink, and if you drink, don't drive.” While the harder tests and a higher minimum score will be a big improvement, let's just hope that more improvements will come very soon so that more people will get a chance to enjoy life.
