WASHINGTON UPI — Luci Baines Johnson celebrates her 18th birthday today with the hope that she will now be called a ‘‘young adult’’ rather than ugh! a ‘‘teen-ager.’” "A girl of 18 can get married and, in some places, she can vote,” said Luci in a telephone interview. "It’s totally unfair to be called a teen-ager. I consider myself a young adult.” Bubbling with excitement, Luci told of inviting "a whole bunch of my friends . . . about 30; to a ‘come-as-you-are’ birthday celebration” in the White House tonight. The affair was planned for the ‘‘rec room” in the third floor family quarters with lots of frug and watusi records and a big birthday cake. The President and the First Lady were not expected to be on hand. But she said they already have given her ‘‘the one” gift she really wanter — a new green Chevrolet Sting Ray sports car. Luci has been conducting a one-girl campaign against the name “teen-ager” since she was 16. “People 13 are children and people 19 are often married. They have nothing in common," she said. “The majority of my friends are older.” she added. “A lot are married. The boys I date are between 20 and 23. I feel strongly about this. I’d like to get rid of this teen-age image.” The 15 - and -16 - year - old “Beatle screamers” are teen-agers to Luci. Warm - hearted, spontaneous and articulate, Luci is beginning
to acquire a national following. She captures the imagination of other youngsters with her funloving spirit.

Continued from Page 2 to sign the test ban treaty, to agree at least on not spreading the weapons and knowledge. The United States has suggested, in addition, that countries not now ossessing weapons agree they will not seek them or information as to how to make them. The United States, which was strongly pushing the NATO nuclear force idea for a long time, Btill officially endorses it. But it has left it up to the British, West Germans, Italians and other Euroepan Allies to try to come up with a workable formula for it.

Piping Progress LOUISVILLE. Ky. UPI — The paint brush joins the pipe wrench and welding gun as a tool for assembling industrial piping systems. A line of socketend stainless steel fittings has been developed by Chemetron Corp.’s Tube Turns division for epoxy-bonded metallic piping, a new technique regarded as particularly promising in the chemical industry. The epoxy resin adhesive is brushed on the mating surfaces of pipe and fittings—elbow, tee, ; etc.—and the pipe end simply slid into the close-tolerance socket. The system can be put to use after a 24-hour curing period.
Rain Brings Convict To Tower Justice JOLIET. B UPI — A driving rain today brought convict Charles Thomas down from a self-imposed exile atop the water tower of Joliet State penitentiary. He came down carrying a plastic bag containing 16 candy bars after an 11-day stay that Warden Frank J. Pate called a “publicity stunt.” After a breakfast of bacon, eggs, milk and toast, Thomas was taken to the prison hospital for psychiatric examination. He got water through a trap door in the water tank by lowering a tin cup on a string. He also wrote messages on the side of the tank. Thomas is currently serving a 35-year sentence for rape and a l-to-10 year term for armed robbery.
