Crond Jury Hands hdictment Today CROWN POINT, Ind. UPI — A Lake County grand jury Wednesday handed down 11 jlealed indictments in connection with an alleged $100,000 license plate racket in the county. Recommending that future fp-and juries continue the investigation, the report cited “slovfnly procedure” in some public •tffices and “complicity” by certain individuals. The jury's report said the racket, involving improper sales of auto tags to persons ineligible to buy them because of delinquent tax payments, stemmed . fcom widespread disregard for ‘notarization laws and added •that such sales are likely to re«ur unless precautions are taken "by supervisory officials. The report followed a sixjnonth investigation which included testimony from 300 per•ons. I Earlier, the jury indicted two notaries public, Mrs. Velma *. Wall, 39, and Mrs. Elinor Pauli, 3*5. on charges of falsely attesting to affidavits in connection with license plate sales. Charles Colson, 51, a Gary truck stop operator, also faces charges in-
' volving auto tag sales. Lake County Prosecutor Henry Kowalczyk said the grand jury report concerned mainly the midtown Gary and Hobart license branches and the offices of the Lake County treasurer and assessor.
