In Memory of Ida Reiter
In the unaccustomed silence when a loved one’s voice is stilled and yesteryear is now a part of forever, bound up in a sheaf in the hands of God— When the ever present pressing moment is where the past clings nar, touching the minute at hand and when the beckoning beyond quietly comes, leading into the future—splendid and unknown—we say—what was twisted will straighten out and what was good will become a guide to a blessed conclusion of life's problems, as in the life of our beloved Grandma Reiter. She forged strength from the hard facts of many ailments. Death did not slay her, but she made it a ladder to the stars— to “the angels in glory looking this way.”. We shall miss all of these things, but we have the assurance that the influence of her life will continue to bless the lives it has touched, both here and over there. Grandma Reiter was a leader ;n the home and a follower of her husband’s strong principles for the right. Her generosity, gracious affection, kindness and devotion beyond duty over alf these 92 years is i a glowing pride as she still i stands as a sentinel in the night ' with a vigil carefulness over those left ashore. The strength and courage beyond all doubt, that she showed after being left alone 22 years | ago. has given courage to the hands that catch the fallen I torch she flings. She brought ! a spring song or a verse for all ' the messy things house wives i must do. Her McGuffey Read!ers never ceased to be an inspiration. Her many friends held her integrity and good will iiT highest esteem. Buring sickness, depression or death when she was an ever ready help, her songs rang out the inevitable faith she lived by. Her prayers covered all the iniquities of mankind and searched for a solace for every
| soul.
Mrs. Reiter joined the M. E. Church in 1887. was converted to Christ and baptized by Rev. Smith and in 1897 joined the United Brethren Church near Clinton, Indiana, where she, as a bride, organized a new Sunday School and was its superintendent in the little community where she lived. In 1901 her membership was placed in the M. E. Church at Villa Grove, 111nois, and then moved to Waveland, Indiana in 1922, where she was active in all church organizations, women's clubs, order of Eastern Star and taught Sunday School class for many
years.
Ida Reiter was a daughter of Richard and Susannah Bowman Asher and was born Dec. 28, 1872. in Owen County, Indiana, where she married Elmer Reiter on March 27, 1895. She is survived by one daughter, Orlena Rush of Blue Island, 111., 3 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren, a foster daughter, Marie Weaver of Waveland, and a daughter-in-law. Aline Reiter of Ladoga, Indiana and one sister, Minnie Hunaicker of Waveland, Indiana. Preceding her in death was her husband, two daughters, a son. Orvis, 4 brothers, 5 sisters, and many nieces and nephews. Grandma Reiter was fourth in a family of 12. She took vocation and voice lessons and on special occasions gave many readings and group singing was often a part of her past-time, j Also her parties for the neighbor and family children. Mrs. Reiter was living with her daughter in Blue Island, j On June 6 she became severely j ill and grew weaker until on i Monday June 14 the Master ! took her home at the age of 92 years, 5’4 months.
