Bombers Blast H. Viet Targets SAIGON UPI — American fighter-bombers blasted targets ! in North Viet Nam during the night but the raids were restricted to areas south of Hanoi, the Communist capital. In South Viet Nam, U.S. and Vietnamese forces repulsed two determined guerrilla assaults, one only five miles from Saigon. The air raids on the Communist North followed Tuesday’s

daring strike against a North Vietnamese ammunition dump and barracks area beyond Hanoi barely 80 miles from the Communist Chinese border. Deep Penetration It was the second time in four days that American planes had stabbed that deep into Communist territory. U.S. officials disclosed that one of the targets hit Tuesday —the army barracks at Son La 125 miles northwest of Hanoi— was bombed last Friday. The original report on the Friday raid placed the target west-southwest of Hanoi but authorities said the announced location was erroneous. Briefing officers meant to say “westnorthwest” of Hanoi, a spokesman said.
