He's the graying, ex-con of “Peyton Place” who has established himself as the first heman in a soap opera, or a “continuing story’” as the producers of the series would rather have it called. Actors in daytime soap operas historically have been weak sisters who let the heroines lead them around by the nose. They are chronic whiners, losers and boozers. But now comes O’Connor in the role of Elliott Carson, and all of a sudden there's a no-nonsense man's man on the screen who is neither melted by female tears nor neutralized by distaff wales. Mon Is Pulled Into Hay Baler HANNA UPI — Burnett Marks, 34. Hanna, was killed Saturday w’hen he was pulled into a hay baler as he w’orked on it. Authorities said Marks was attempting to remove a bale of hay which had jammed in the machine as he worked on the Edward Volk farm about tw’o miles west of here. Police said Marks apparently forgot to switch off the takeoff unit on the tractor as he worked on the baler and it bolted into action w’hen cleared.

Boy, 10, Dies In YMCA Pool ELKHART UPI — A 10-year-old Elkhart boy died Saturday while participating in swimming classes at the YMCA here. Police said Sam Holland suddenly fell over backwards In shallow water and began floating on his back. They said an autopsy has been ordered to determine whether the boy drowned or died of a possible heart attack. Attempts to revive the boy failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene. A lifeguard, several parents and other persons were present when the incident occurred. Walter Rinehart, general secretary of the YMCA. said.
