Poverty Money OK Is Expected WASHINGTON UPI — The House Education and Labor Committee was set today to approve President Johnson's request for authority to spend $1.5 billion for his war on poverty campaign. Committee Chairman Adam Clayton Powell said the adminstration's bid for double last year’s anti-poverty spending would be approved by his poverty subcommittee at 9 a. m. EDT and by the full committee an hour later. The Harlem Democrat, claiming victory in his recent dispute with anti-poverty head R. Sargent Shriver over the operation of the program, said Wednesday he would push the bill through unchanged and in record time. This speeded - up schedule marked a complete change for Powell who until Tuesday had vowed to give the administration a rough time on its fiscal
request.
