The quartet’s host will be DePauw and its head basketball coach Elmer McCall who will be operating for the eighth consecutive year his pre-high school Basketball and Sports Camp. Camp dates for the sixth through ninth graders are June 20-26 and June 27-July 3. The 11 Oopenings (55 each camp) are filled, according to McCall, the ex-high school coach w ho led South Bend Central to state
titles in 1953 and 1957. In past years the sports camp has drawn aspiring young basketballers from Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, Missouri, Wisconsin and Indiana. According to McCall’s camp plan the “guest lecturers” will conduct daily sessions on fundamentals at the camp, using some erf their own high school athletes to demonstrate methods and theories. McCall, acting as dean of the summer session, will tie the sports package together with chalk talks, drills and evening intramural games among the campers. An adjunct for the youths, who will live and eat in a campus fraternity house, will be recreational swimming, bowling, tennis and ping pong. DePauw student-athletes wall serve as assistants and counselors.
Loses In Golf DePauw whipped St. Joseph’s 11-4, in golf yesterday, but stumbled before Indiana State, 9% to 5%, at Terre Haute. Astros Improving In Own Stadium By United Press International The Houston Astros are fast becoming the best indoor baseball team in the United States. Strange things have been happening to Houston ball players ever since the team moved Into Its glittering $31.6 million Astrodome this season and the strangest things of all is that the Astros now' have won five National League games in a row. While it is a little early to classify the Astros as perrant contenders, the once forlorn Houston club, which never has finished higher than eighth in its three previous seasons, is solidly entrenched in fourth place and boasts tw’o individual major league statistical leaders. The latest player to be inspired by the magnificance of the Texas palace is a young mghthander named Dave Ciusti just«e, who in two previous seasons with the NL club won exactly
two games.
Pittsburg managed only four scattered singles off Ciusti, who earned h isfirst starting assgnment since 1962 with some flashy relief work last week, and threatened only once in the game when a single and twm Houston errors loaded the bases in the third. Ciusti promptly fanned Willie Stargell for one of his nine strike outs to ease out
of the jam.
In his four appearances thifir year, Ciusti has allowed a total of five hits and a single run in 14 , a innings, walked one and struck out 13. His first victory occurred on April 21 against Philadelphia and started the As-
tros on their current win streak, ] and his three victories have come within the space of six days. John Bateman, who is tied in the major league home run de^jby with four round-trippers, knocked in one run to raise his RFI total to nine, third best in the senior circuit, and Bob Aspromonte drove home the other with one of his two safeties off Bob Friend, who allowed only six hits to absorbing his first loss after two wins.
To Defend Title PINEHURST, N. C. UPI— Dale Morey of Lumberton, N. C., will defend his 1964 NorthSouth title beginning today at the Pinehurst Country Club against a field which includes fivt winners of the match play golf tournament and USCA champion William C.
