South Dakota Reports Snow By United Press International Spring snow hit the South Dakota badlands area early today and snow flurries were reported in hilly spots in eastern New York and New England. Floods continued to plague the Midwest. The Mississippi moved toward a record crest at St. Paul, Minn. Flooding soaked towns in Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, North Dakota and Montana. Showers and thunderstorms spattered areas stretching from the southern plains to the upper Mississippi Valley today, including some flood - stricken regions. Snow piled three inches deep at Rapid City, S. D., and snow flurries hit New York and New England hills on the heels of a storm that dumped up to a foot of snow on northern New

England Tuesday. Rain also hit some New England spots but the region continued to suffer from a drought stretching since last summer. Officials said four inches of rain are needed before midMay to prevent one of the worst droughts in New England history. Temperatures early today ranged from 22 at Traverse City, Mich., and Limestone, Maine, to 78 at Key West, Fla. Temperatures climbed into the 90's through most of Florida Tuesday, with Miami reporting a record reading of 91.
