John Flanigan, a New York sculptur, designed the coin. His initials “JF” appear at the

base of the neck.

The chief features of the design are a noble head on t h e P* 4 ' obverse and a standing eagle j with outstretched wings on the reverse. As is customary oft this denomination, the motto “In God We Trust” appears on the obverse and E. Pluribus

Mayor Robert F. Wagner, heeding a public demand for increased protection in the wake of a 41 per cent increase thus far this year in serious subway crimes, Monday said a policeman armed with a nightstick and revolver will patrol each subway train from 8 p. m. to 4 a. m.
