GRAIN ELEVATOR SAFETY PACK SUPERIOR, Wis. UPI — Thanks to a new, lightweight, portable back-pack resuscitator, safety-conscious workers at the Farmers Union Grain Elevator here breath easier. The resuscitator furnishes oxygen to rescuer and rescued alike. The equipment is vital on two counts to the 100-man crew that operates the 19-million bushel elevator, believed to be the world's largest port elevator. First, the dusty atmosphere can create an explosion hazard. Second, huge caches of grain, when being withdrawn, can suddenly behave like quicksand, engulfing an unwary worker without warning. The backpack resuscitator, marketed by National Cylinder Gas Division of The Chemetron Corp., is a safeguard against this ever-present danger of a respiratory emergency.
