-Michigan State is looking for a recruiter today, not a basket-

ball coach.

The school had a basketball coach, but it fired Forest (Forddy) Anderson in a surprsie move Thursday. He was a basketball coach, but not a recruiter. It was his lack of the lateer ability that led to his dismissal after 11 seasons. Anderson. 46. arrived at Michigan State in 1954 and in his first season directed the Spartans to a 13-9 record, reversing the team's mark of the previous season. Two years later he guided the Spartans to Big Ten and NCAA regional titles and in 1958-59 his club took the conference crown again. Then Anderson's teams start- : ed on a downhill skid that was eventually to end up in the Big Ten's basement. The Spartans finished eighth, ninth, ninth, ninth, fourth and tenth during the past six seasons and compiled overall marks of 48-86.
