Coaches Think Washington Was The Best Team
INDIANAPOLIS U PI — Coaches of the two teams to beat Indianapolis Washington during the season said today they feel the best team won the Indiana high school basketball championship. “I’m tickled to death with the outcome of the tourney,” said Evan Fine of suburban Ben Davis. “I feel the best team won.” His sentiments were echoed by Woody McBride of Indianapolis Manual, whose club beat Washington early in January when both were undefeated. “I’ve said for three weeks that Washington would win the title," said McBride. Both coaches watched the west-siders brinT Indianapolis its fourth state crown last Saturday night, 64-57 over Fort Wayne North in the title cla;h. Washington avenged both regular-season setbacks in the tourney — against Manual in the Southport sectional and Ben Davis fell in the Indianapolis regional. “They're just a real good ballclub,” said McBride, “They seem to have what it takts when the time comes. They’re well disciplined, well coached, real competitive and aggressive." McBride agreed with Washington coach Jerry Oliver that the champs didn’t play their finest game in the title scrap. He also said he feels Washington may have received “a slight break’’ when Gary Roosevelt was beaten by North in the afternoon and by playing the first game, which allows for a longer rest period until the title “lash.
Dean Chance To Have Competition
Dean Chance, the best pitcher in baseball in 1964, may not even be the best pitcher on the Los Angeles Angels in 1965. The “playboy of the Western world,” Chance won the Cy Young Award given annually to the No. 1 pitcher in the majors after a ’64 season in which he had a 20-9 record, 11 shutouts and a 1.65 earned run average. Chance is expected to be even better this year but he may find his most serious competition right in the Angel dugout
Change Made In Basketball Rules
CHICAGO UPI — Basketball coaches can consult with officials next year, the Rules Committee announced today, but if it’s an unjustified protest, it will cost the coach a time out.
The committee made three rules changes, effective next season. It allowed the consultation with officials for the first time in the only major change.
A coach can obtain the conference, while the clock is stopped and the ball dead, by requesting it at the scorer’s table. The scorer will signal the officials to come to the table and they will confer with both coaches.

An ISU staff member since 1946, Selge won the honor over four other mentors in the balloting conducted among the league’s five swimming coaches.
Selge amassed 12 points in the voting followed by Evansville coach Jim Voorhees who received nine.
The Indiana State alumnus steered his 1964-65 squad to an 8-3 dual mark, to second in the conference and to seventh place in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athlttics meet last weekend at LaCrosse, Wis.
His 1963-64 team was even better. It fashioned a 11-2 seasonal mark, took a blue ribbon in the ICC event and gained fifth nationally in the NAIA.
