Speech Hailed By State Demos INDIANAPOLIS UPI —Legislative leaders from Governor “ Branigin’s own party hailed his Indiana atata budget message and indicated they believed the lawmakers will go along with

his suggestions "in general.” Rep. Fredrick T. Bauer, DTerre Haute, House Democratic majority leader, said It was a “very realistic” approach to the problem of finances and he believed the House, at least, “in general will go along.” However, minority Republicans immediately criticized the proposals.

“J. pave an uneasy feeling that the majority party, like a volcano, is about to erupt,” said Rep. Otis Bowen, R-Bremen, House minority leader, as he commented that Branigin’s suggested general fund surplus balance of $17 million for the end of the next biennium should be $35 to $40 million. caucus chairman, and Sen. Allan Bloom, Fort Wayne, GOP floor leader, assailed Branigin for such items as establishing a Washington bureau, reducing state aid to schools, increasing the port construction fund, and suspending state publications. Rep. James Hunter, D-East Chicago, called the speech "sound and conservative.” Rep. William Sebree, D-An-

Waya and Means Committee which handles the budget bills, called it "a very fine speech.” "I can’t speak for the whole committee, but I’m sure we’ll take a very careful look at the recommendations,” Sebree said.

To Build Plant LA CROSS, Wis. UPI —Continental Can Co. announced Monday it will build a can factory at La Crosse to supply the G. Heileman Brewing Co. with beer cans. The plant will employ about 40 persons with an

In Canvas Wear NEW YORK UPI —American Machine & Foundry Co. announced Monday its subsidiary W. J. Voit Rubber of Santa Ana, Calif., has entered the canvas-rubber footwear field with a line ranging from basketball shoes and boat shoes to casual sneakers.

BUB DRIVER DDDB EVANSVILLE, Ind. UPI — Louis Ruedlinger, 64. Evans- ; ville, collapsed and died of an apparent heart seizure Monday while driving a school bus partly loaded with children. The bus swerved off a snowcovered county road and covered country road and plunged into a ditch. None of the children were hurt. Ruedlinger w'as dead on arrival at Deaconess Hospital.
